i posted this up this week not really sure if it was the case or not. i was hoping someone could reassure me or something. the responses i received afterwards from sponsors and organisers and attendees cleared things up and now I'm 100% sure

some people have told me i should have gone to local first conf but i couldn't because i was invited to give the opening keynote and run a workshop at a different conference that happened at the same time:

is "local first" completely co-opted by big tech yet? looking at the conference that just happened.. - very non-local-first sponsors - extremely un-diverse speakers - website doesn't work on my phone - the tadi web is dead

Lu, you know how much I respect you and I say this as an attendee: I wish you actually came to the conf and contributed instead of torpedoing it from afar. I know you’re smarter than this. Was CFs copywriting tone deaf/presumptuous and their talk kinda offtopic? Sure. But this was the instance of the conf with the most new people from the most walks of life. And the most diverse set of topics of talks and the most new speakers. Martin’s talk was the most directly political call for a renewed meaning of the full local first principles to that full audience. The fact that this was possible is because local first is now big enough to attract sponsorship from big cloud companies, which as a signal helps the movement actually make a ripple in the mainstream. CF realistically doesn’t give a shit about local first, but @threepointone does. It is bottom up support from a long time member who can influence the sort of money that makes this big. Worthwhile movements depended on the support of far stranger bedfellows than this. Instead of focusing on stuff to help the movement you ragebait based on vilifying boring cloud vendors as some perceived enemy and distorting superficial diversity metrics that are inherently noisy conf-to-conf, when an achievement of this community has exactly been diversity. Please pick better adversaries.

this post hit a nerve with some people (on various platforms) a lot of people defending the sponsors. no one defending the lack of diversity though or the fact it doesn't work on my phone, and still no one knows what a pastapocalypse is but they reply guy me anyway
