This has been a good week for unionism, while Sinn Fein seriously blundered - as I saw with my own eyes. In failing to distinguish between the American government and the American people, the party boycotted people who have nothing to do with Donald Trump. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/comment/opinio…

Today is St Patrick’s Day!☘️ Last year @AmbJapanUK visited Northern Ireland and took in the natural wonder of the Giant’s Causeway – NI’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. DYK that Japan has several dramatic coastal rock formations similar to the Giant’s Causeway? Most notably are the Tojinbo Cliffs in Fukui Prefecture which feature massive, vertical, hexagonal basalt columns formed over 10 million years ago! Happy St Patrick’s Day Northern Ireland! ☘️🇬🇧 And yup, he was from Roman Britain. The Irish had a habit of invading Britain (whaaaaat) and kidnapping folk to make them slaves. Still Patrick had no bitterness in his heart and gave his all to the Christianisation of Ireland ✝️☘️

@PaulVall17 Yes indeed we’re happy she’s done well too… it’s simply important we remember it was made possible by her working hard for the opportunities that come from living in a country of almost 70 million, with a world-renown NHS and large trade union organisations.

The ‘impact of partition’ for Pat Cullen MP was a £200k annual salary for a top British job as Chief Exec & General Sec for the ROYAL College of Nursing. Northern Ireland is a changed place. Whatever your background, you can rise to the highest paid, most influential positions.

@debbeepatton We’re happy to see her do well in the United Kingdom too 👍🏼… Shame all this time she harboured sympathies for and later stood for a party that won’t call terrorism for what it is. But yes, great nurse.

@TogetherUKFound Pat was a great & caring nurse, eventually becoming a brilliant trade union leader. We are very fortunate to have such a highly talented woman as Pat Cullen who has devoted her life, in many different ways, to public service.

At last! Some British ingenuity and ambition at this scale! 😍
The B1M@TheB1M

Proposals for a high-speed rail loop that would link nine urban centres across Great Britain and Ireland have been put forward by RIBA President Chris Williamson. The so-called ‘Northern Loop’ would create a ‘dispersed but connected’ global city of around ten million people. Williamson suggests that the Northern Loop would cost £130BN to construct and deliver £12BN a year in economic benefits. He confirmed in a social media post on 8 February that the proposal had been submitted to the Royal Academy’s 2026 summer exhibition. “Maybe I have been too influenced by the scale, the vision and the ambition of The LINE in Saudi Arabia, having worked on the high-speed stations running alongside the 170-kilometre city for the last few years,” said Williamson in a statement provided to The B1M. “But we in the British Isles should be equally ambitious about our future. At present the Government seems to expect each city to compete for the same investment funding, when we need to encourage connectivity and collaboration.” Locally-sourced stone arches would be used to the elevate the tracks above the landscape – minimising disruption and creating the flat, straight runs that are key to any high-speed line. Engineering consultants Elliott Wood have provided input into the proposals from an early stage. “Britain needs a vision that can excite the country, regenerate the economy and restore confidence,” said Williamson. “Architects once published manifestos. They were not always right, but they inspired, provoked and set out ideas they believed in. This project is intended as a return to that time.” More here 👉 theb1m.com/article/high-s… 📷 Chris Williamson
