Lust can be defeated, though; just can't be entirely eliminated. Some things in life can be controlled without being completely erased. Lust is one of them, being a form of energy. Using the law of thermodynamics as an analogy, I will say lust is inherent and as a form of energy, it cannot be destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form into another. Heat becomes motion, motion becomes electricity, electricity becomes light. The energy is still there, but it changes form and direction. Human desires work in a similar fashion. You may never completely eliminate attraction, temptation, or sexual impulses, because they are part of being human. But you can redirect them. Lust can be transformed into discipline, ambition, creativity, love, self-control, or commitment. In his book, Hill wrote about the mystery of sex transmutation. He taught that one can transform sex energy into useful energy for production. A man who is ruled by lust lets the energy control him. A man who defeats lust learns to control where that energy goes. So lust is not some unbeatable monster that can only be avoided forever. It is more like fire: dangerous when uncontrolled but useful when mastered. The feeling itself may never disappear entirely, but its power over you can absolutely be defeated.
