@IndieGameJoe @cultra Crazy that someone would play a game instead of opening a VHS rental store. I had a friend once who watched a movie instead of becoming 1952 American table tennis champion Marty Mauser. smh!

@cultra and? if we want to play something that brings us joy, that means something to us, why should that bother you?

One crazy thing I never hear people talk about is how games look so different when WATCHING them vs PLAYING them. I saw my wife play Pokemon Arceus and there's tiling textures and models popping in like crazy. It looks so empty it's nuts. But I'm playing it myself now, and my eyes are locked on a 1-inch collectable ahead of me for the whole game. I literally don't see the optimisations happening around it. In my memory it's a different looking game. I'm sure great art directors and optimisation programmers know this and use it in their decisions. Hopefully I'll figure it out aswel.

@SamSantala Wow your art is amazing! I was really into Everwild. Good luck, I hope you catch a great and achievable idea. I think a game that utilises your paintings could be exciting.

Posted on LinkedIn last night, woke up to several hundred notifications, friends requests, etc. Seems I struck a nerve in the industry by saying I wanted to create my own projects and not be at the mercy of execs. It's going to have to be smaller studios and smaller projects.

@__silent_ @SamsonMcCray Lol I was gonna suggest it might help make the game feel more responsive, but I read the replies and twitter is experiencing a gas leak for some reason 🤣 It's a reasonable question for the developer! I hope they get back to you sensibly in a DM.

From their Dev Diary, it -almost- looks like @SamsonMcCray doesn't blend the animations, they all start so unnaturally abruptly...

I agree, it's gross! There's so much to like about how games play, look, sound, feel, and how the design culture changes so much all the time. Its a fun thing to be into. Then there's teenagers tracking product data like they're old men at the horse racing track, the most boring thing in the world. Bizarre.

I think the rise in steam chart discourse has arguably been one of (if not the) worst things to happen to gaming communities in recent years

@dieworkwear And then they start selling their own protein power, or soap for men or whatever, so they've got 15 boxes of those in the house.

@dieworkwear Companies send them a bunch of action figures and energy drinks, and they don't want that stuff hanging around their house. So they put it in the office room. Now the office room is a warehouse full of free samples.

is there a reason why successful, presumably wealthy streamers always stream from rooms with ugly interior decor? is it branding? always looks like the back supply room for some baseball card shop.

@TheCartelDel btw I also miss companies where people would do research, get interviews, and showcase a variety of different games. That still exists, it's just very spread out and you have to try subscribing to a lot of different stuff to find good ones.

@TheCartelDel I think they could do this when there were 800 games coming out in a year. Now that there are thousands, I think its really difficult and time-consuming to carry that flag.

Real sad to see the legacy game journalist websites die slowly - no matter how you feel about them, you can't deny they play SO many damn unknown games, and were often the reason Indie hits would even happen. Stardew Valley, Hades, Hollow Knight, Expedition33, Animal Well, Tunic, Stray, Disco Elysium. A lot of those games were rocket propelled out of nowhere into the light after Insanely high reviews from those sites. If the army of Youtubers were actually taking time to play lots of unknown games to find hidden gems, at least we would have a replacement - but many seem too focused on saying what they hate about games, or just commentate on the biggest releases. Indie will suffer
