@TomCrean Tom, you missed one: “The two-handed evaluator.” They will talk about a player and say, “On the one hand, the player can do this but on the other hand…” Having no conviction is very safe. I see this a lot.

Evaluation description 1. Generic ( they are okay, good, plays hard etc) 2. Highlight reel( can really play, all positives) 3. Math Wizard ( all numbers with no context , reads stats and gives basic follow up) 4. Stenographers ( gives you more of what they’ve heard or read )

Just Coach the Team 1. Have 2-3 things you can call on the fly to get your team to settle down and move the ball. 2. Every time you go at the refs you distract your team’s focus. They are watching you. 3. Have your whole team stand up every time someone comes out of the game.

Be an Encourager. Don’t be an Enabler. Encouragers are appreciated Enablers are taken for granted. Encouraging is helping someone see forward. Enabling helps keep them stuck in their own ego’s. Hold the door open for them. Don’t carry their Bags for them.

If you are LEARNING, you are LEADING ! You may not be leading what you want or where you want. You may not leading in a way people can see. You are PREPARING though. You are FOCUSED. Don’t let your learning suffer because you aren’t leading to your capabilities—-YET.
