I’m poster number 78 at #CoolStars22 , today and tomorrow! Come find me to chat about heat scaling in convection, and extrapolating simulations to astrophysical regimes!

Just gave my first academic talk at #NAM2023, thank you to listening to me talk about rotation and internal heating and cooling in fluid dynamics!

This is just on ISCA, so doesn't include simulations run on my own computer, or on smaller servers which I often use for medium-sized jobs. (4/4)

My colleague, just finishing his Ph.D. in the same field as me, has run around 50,000 CPU-days, around 24 GJ and 1.5 metric tons of CO2. (3/4)

Today, @danelsender realised ISCA, the Exeter supercomputer, can tell you the total CPU-time you've used on it. From this, you can extrapolate total energy usage and make a guess at CO2 consumption. I wrote a mini python script to do this: github.com/tj294/ISCA-CO2… (1/4)

Just arrived at Glasgow Science Centre for #RASreach - an @RAS_Outreach conference today! Really excited to hear a wide range of talks, and develop my own understanding of outreach

Received my first letter from my @LettersPreSci pen pal today! Super excited to read it and send back my reply! Favourite line: “A PlayStation 2? That is a little bit old” 😅😅

Fun fact - that yellow squiggly line is a gamma-ray photon. This will get absorbed and re-emitted every 0.9mm, and it will take 170,000 years for it to escape the Sun!

Two Helium-3 nuclei then combine, forming He-4, which is the Helium isotope we’re familiar with on Earth. This reaction also produces two hydrogen nuclei, which allows the process to begin again.

Here’s a quick animation I made today demonstrating the p-p chain, which is how the Sun converts hydrogen into helium in its core. 2 hydrogen nuclei fuse to form Deuterium, which combines with another proton to form He-3.

Does anyone know of any resources to help brush up on my Statistics? It wasn’t focussed on during undergrad, so I sometimes feel like my basic knowledge is lacking. This is for use in my Astrophysics PhD for reference #PhDVoice
