@hawkins_carole @colinwalker79 @ECIU_UK @KathrynPorter26 @Telegraph Two pictures of copper mines in a post about lithium and cobalt. *Slow clap*
English

@colinwalker79 @ECIU_UK @KathrynPorter26 @Telegraph Lithium and Cobalt mining for battery components - decimates the environment, decimates water supplies, indigenous people's livelihoods threatened into non-existence all so the"West" can claim its green credentials. EV's are a scam.

English

Another weekend, another anti-#ElectricVehicle diatribe that shows scant regard for the facts
Seriously, look at that headline 🤦🏽
This one is courtesy of @KathrynPorter26 at the @Telegraph
Here's a thread debunking the plethora of 'non-factual' statements it contains

@AukeHoekstra @VolvoCarUK Hi - thanks for your work on this. I've spent a lot of time explaining your points to other people who still to this day share screenshots of the "9 years" claim. Did you and Volvo ever have a public discussion elsewhere on this?
English

British media and @VolvoCarUK are resuscitating an erroneous study I corrected before in #Astongate.
But it's become WORSE!
Claim: it takes 70k miles for EVs to pay back battery production.
Reality: 16k miles.
Let me explain once again (sigh).

@RebeccaUdon @JohnMil33426882 @GBNEWS EVs and hybrids have LESS brake wear because they use regenerative braking most of the time and therefore use the pads less.
English

@JohnMil33426882 @GBNEWS Similarly, the brakes wear out faster for the same reason.
Why pay more than they would for a better performing ICE car which has superior range?
You can also “recharge” an ICE vehicle in 2minutes & carry extra range in Jerry cans, while still being lighter.

@Colchesterviews @post2gary @lpoolcouncil @ubitricity @yourcolchester @MarkAlanCory @MarkGoacher @dariusglaws @NissenIn @LScordis @Colchesterviews What EV have you got? Have you got home charging?
English

@post2gary @lpoolcouncil @ubitricity @yourcolchester @MarkAlanCory @MarkGoacher @dariusglaws @NissenIn @LScordis Unless they are fast chargers, EV owners won’t use them. You need a university degree to use the ones in #Colchester.
They need to be simple, tap your card, charge fast and away.
Ps - ditching our EV after 1.5 years. It’s not the future, yet!
English

@TomTXWelham Hi Tom, please send a DM with your details and we'll see what we can do to speed things up. Thanks, Dave
English

Left @edfenergy early December. Mid-Dec final bill says they're going to take another direct debit late Dec anyway(?) leaving credit to reclaim. Hard copy bill turns up 30th Dec - says I'll get refund in 6 to 8 WEEKS. It's amazing how quick they can take but slow to give back.
English

@crispi_1971 Indeed. I'm moving house and will at some point have solar and a Zappi. Even if it only gave me 10% of my annual mileage for free and at 0g/kWh that'll bring the average down a fair chunk.
English

@TomTXWelham 2/2
And whilst that's enough for 7000km? of driving a year, the spare solar is firstly evenly distributed around the year - mostly in Nov-Feb.
And of course an EV would need to be garaged all during the day for this to work.
So there's that.
English

@crispi_1971 What would be interesting to know is how many people in those particular states have solar and do most of their charging at home!
English

@TomTXWelham Yup. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
You can see all the states/territories here:
powershop.com.au/carbon-calcula…
Listen, I'm not saying that EVs are bad if:
1-You're buying car anyway, and
2-Your electricity is clean.
But there are better options - PT, cycling, using car you have.
English

@crispi_1971 I can see what's happened. I'm talking about Australia as a whole ("on average" as per my first tweet) but you're talking about a specific state. You're almost certainly correct about the state(s) with the dirtiest grids.
English

@TomTXWelham Moreover the non-dubunk link says it should be comparing ICE vs EV in the same country
That's exactly what the VOLVO article did.
Same production line, everything.
Truth hurts, and it hurts INSIDEEVS because they have a narrative to maintain.
These are facts.
English

@crispi_1971 Volvo/Polestar: insideevs.com/news/458458/le…
Polestar (Volvo) concurred that parent company Volvo were using the wrong figures.
It's blatantly not the correct figures: Assuming average mix, assuming that mix will stay the same, and not including well-to-tank emissions is just lying.
English

@TomTXWelham Citation please on Volvo's admission of error.
Besides - many cars have even less consumption - VW Polo Diesel at 90g/km
English

@crispi_1971 You're talking tank-to-wheel again, and we've covered why Volvo are wrong (they even admitted it themselves). Where are you getting your well to tank figures from?
English

@TomTXWelham According to the Tank-to-Wheel figure from Volvo themselves. 173gCO2/km. They've compared both the XC40 and XC40 Recharge, and quoted efficiency values (with big picture stats) for both cars.
English

@crispi_1971 According to whom? Where are your figures coming from and why do they differ from multiple peer reviewed studies, including the one I mentioned to begin with?
English

@TomTXWelham yes,
apparently well->refinery = -10%, and
refinery->tank = -10% as well.
The latter should be obvious, just by looking at the size of a tanker versus its own fuel tank - moving fuel around is quite efficient.
English

@crispi_1971 That's only counting tank to wheel emissions, you need to look at the whole lifecycle and whole well to wheel cycle and look at more than just one model of vehicle and consider EVs generally aren't charged with average mix but below average mix, and that grids are getting cleaner
English

@TomTXWelham And this is the problem with Australia.
The 3 big SE states are still using coal.
Victoria's CO2 intensity is 1060g/kWh !
This means that EVs in VIC/NSW/QLD emit more CO2 than equivalent ICE cars (Volvo XC40 vs XC40 recharge).
Even in SA-break even point is 214000km
