When Trump announced a delay to the bombing on Monday morning, crude oil futures immediately fell 10%.
Compare this to the reaction to yesterday afternoon, when he extended the delay another 10 days (red box). It was short-lived, and now, about 12 hours later, prices are meaningfully higher.
I believe the market signal is that the Strait must be opened, and the military must do it. The longer we delay starting this process, the higher crude oil prices will go. All Trump did yesterday was add 10 more days to the ongoing supply shock.
Any further statements by Trump about a deal are white noise to the markets. Only if the IRANIANS say the talks are going well will it impact markets.
Why isn't the crude oil market substantially higher ($150+), like many are asking? I would argue that the market believes the military can open the Strait. But it will be "messy."
In other words, there are no good choices, only ones that are less bad.

Excise duty on Petrol was 9.2 per litre and on Diesel it was just 3.46 per litre before your divisionary leader took oath.
Excise Duty on Diesel was raised to 17.33 then to 31.83 during Covid which was 820% high. You've amassed several lakhs of Crore in taxes when the Crude price was low and raised the duties to never pass on the benefits of cheap crude during your hay days.
Now you are forced to cut the duties because of the war, and you are pretending as if you are doing a favour to people of India. Now we know that what's coming next. You'll show that Govt cannot sustain and you'll raise prices as if there is no option left out. You can keep this trick in your pocket itself.

International crude prices have gone through the roof in the last 1 month from around 70 dollars/barrel to around 122 dollars/barrel. Consequently, petrol and diesel prices for consumers have gone up all over the world. Prices have increased by around 30%-50% in South East Asian countries, 30% in North American countries, 20% in Europe and 50% in African countries. The Modi Government had two choices- either increase prices drastically for citizens of Bharat as all other nations have done or bear the brunt on its finances so that Indian citizen is insulated from international volatility. Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji, in keeping with his Government’s commitment of last 4 years since the conflict in Russia-Ukraine started, decided to take a hit on its own finances again to safeguard the Indian citizen. Government has taken a huge hit on it taxation revenues to ensure very high losses of oil companies (approximately 24 Rs/litre for petrol and 30 Rs/litre for diesel) at this time of sky high international prices are reduced. At the same time, export tax has been levied as international prices of petrol and diesel have skyrocketed and any refinery exporting to foreign nations will have to pay export tax. My gratitude to Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble FM @nsitharaman Ji for this very timely, bold and visionary decision!
