@gaijinthoughts You got it wrong Richard. I did too. It seemed so obvious that most of the Hayashi and Motegi votes would go to Koizumi, and the rank-and file votes, where Takaichi was leading, were bumped down from 295 to 47. And yet! Somehow she managed to beat Koizumi even among the dietmen.

@GearoidReidy Back in the 1980s, I used to go to the Bluegrass Inn in Jimbōchō. Every night there’d be a different Japanese bluegrass band. They had washboards, mandolins and singers who sounded like they came from Tennessee. Don’t know why it closed: it was well patronized by bluegrass otaku.

I like the CDP but recognize that their only appeal lies in social issues. Once social issues such as optional separate surnames and same-sex marriage are resolved, the party will collapse.

The CDP, Japan's largest opposition party, recently held a social media campaign calling on supporters to help their official YouTube channel reach 40k subscribers by February 25th (it was at 35.4K on 2/17). They failed, only managing to reach 38,422 subscribers.
