Today marked Day 1 of the three day Engagement and Sensitization Meeting with State Ministries of Education (SMOEs) and SUBEBs, convened by the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission and supported by the World Bank, I emphasized the urgent need for coordinated action to drive the effective implementation of the HOPE Governance and HOPE Education programmes across Nigeria. These programmes represent a bold, system-wide reform not a one-off intervention designed to strengthen access, improve learning outcomes, and enhance accountability across the basic education sector. With approximately $550 million in financing and additional grant support from the Global Partnership for Education, the HOPE initiative provides a critical opportunity to deliver measurable and lasting impact. The programme prioritizes: - Improving learning outcomes for about 29 million learning-poor children - Empowering over 500,000 teachers through capacity development - Constructing more than 13,000 classrooms to close infrastructure gaps - Re-enrolling out-of-school children through community mobilization - Strengthening equity and inclusion across basic education - Deploying digital dashboards for real-time monitoring and accountability Implementation will be driven at state and local levels, with SUBEBs, Commissioners of Education, Local Government Education Authorities, and community stakeholders playing a central role in needs assessments, teacher development, infrastructure delivery, and grassroots sensitization. As we continue this three day engagement, collaboration, accountability, and shared ownership will remain critical to expanding access, improving quality, and delivering meaningful learning outcomes for every Nigerian child. Education for all is a shared responsibility and together, we must ensure that no child is left behind.
