What is @Somnia_Network actually talking about? What does it really mean? 🤔 Today, most smart contracts on blockchains are quite limited. Today there was a live stream with @0xPaulThomas and @jack_gk where they talked about the biggest opportunities in AI and what Somnia is building to be at the center of it. For those who missed it, here are the key takeaways from the stream. The main idea of the discussion is that the development of AI today is very similar to the Space Race of the 1960s. Back then, the US and the USSR were competing to see who would land on the Moon first. The winner didn’t just gain prestige - they set the direction of technology and global influence for many years ahead. Today a similar race is happening in artificial intelligence. On one side are major tech companies like OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Meta. On the other side are efforts to build decentralized AI that isn’t controlled by a single corporation. One of the main problems discussed during the stream was centralization. Today most powerful AI models are controlled by just a few companies. This means they decide how AI works, what data it uses, what it can or cannot say, and how much access will cost. According to Paul, if AI remains entirely in the hands of Big Tech, it could lead to a form of “digital totalitarianism”, just in a more advanced technological form. That’s why the Somnia team is focusing on a different approach - on-chain AI. The idea is that AI agents should exist directly on the blockchain instead of running on company-owned servers. In that case they would: operate autonomously be fully transparent (their code and actions can be verified) not be owned by a single company not be possible to simply “switch off” Somnia is building infrastructure to make this possible: a blockchain capable of handling over 1 million transactions per second, with near-instant finality and extremely low fees. They also discussed what can already be built with this technology: • games and metaverses where the world changes in real time based on player and AI actions • NPC characters that actually learn and evolve instead of following simple scripts • autonomous economic agents such as trading bots, DAO treasuries, and market makers • dynamic in-game economies and real-time betting systems • fully on-chain AI applications without centralized servers The main idea of the whole discussion is that the AI of the future should belong to users, not just large corporations. As Jack GK said at the end of the stream: @Somnia_Network is not just building another blockchain, but infrastructure for a new economy where autonomous AI agents will play a key role. The main takeaway from the stream: decentralizing AI may become one of the most important ways to preserve freedom and openness in the era of superintelligence.
