Keegan Bassett (55kg) is back in the Cadet WTT finals and for the second straight year he has a PA opponent. Last year he beat Kooper Deputy. This year he has Chase Karenbauer. Deputy is in the finals again (48kg) Karenbauer was also a finalist last year, losing to Ariah Mills. Mills is also back in the finals (51kg) vs. PA 8th grader Evan Restivo. Incredible group of consistent lightweights.

A one-time occurrence produced one of the rarest outcomes in NCAA history. There have only been about a dozen “wrestleback warriors” — wrestlers who lose in round one and fight back to finish 3rd. In 2012 (149 lbs), Donnie Vinson (Binghamton, Jr.) became one. What makes it unique: his 3rd-place match came against Cam Tessari (Ohio State, Fr.), who did the exact same thing — lost round one and won six straight to reach the consi final. @Tony_Rotundo @MPValenti07 As far as the wrestler being locked in the cradle for 20 minutes, with the end of the match potentially on the line, I’d say that’s pretty engaging…although if the top man is just sitting there instead of actually working…stalling top man!

@Tony_Rotundo @MPValenti07 Basically, if a wrestler was in a nearfall or imminent nearfall position and the period’s time elapsed, the period didn’t end until either the fall was called or the hold cleared.

My quick thoughts on whether or not Kevin Dresser is stepping down or not as head coach at Iowa State: We've known Dresser would retire soon. He just finished his ninth season as head coach at Iowa State. It really was just a matter of when. Metcalf becoming the head coach whenever Dresser DID retire has always made the most sense to me for just about every reason we can list. I basically envisioned Dresser doing exactly what John Smith has done since he retired at Oklahoma State. The only thing that is really surprising about this report is that we're discussing this today and not April 2027.
