The Florida Constitution requires charter schools to have oversight from elected school boards.
But soon Miami Dade College will start doing that work, transferring elected local control to the governor's appointees.

@TooMuchMe Long before Brightline was an actual train a USDOT official once asked me if I knew anything about it - she said its lobbyist had practically moved into the DOT building, everyone was confused.

Florida is gifting (free) some of the most valuable land in the state to President Trump for a presidential library -- and hotel. It's worth over $67 million + was owned by Miami Dade College.

@oevans82 You can and should believe all that, and you can also believe that this is an anti-rail hit piece in a state that won't give a single dollar to Brightline to make grade separations a thing.

@MissionMiamiPC @downtownMIA More than anything I feel like what is ripe for debate is about the fact that no residents are on the board. That's .. very far from ideal. At the same time, so many residents would likely never have moved downtown if it wasn't for years of YEARS of the DDA's work in the area.

The DDA literally employs people to sweep the streets of downtown Miami. They also do economic development - giving money to mega-corporations to move their business downtown.
No one mentions that a single corporate landlord owns half of downtown.. meaning abandoned properties.
