Slowly but surely the tundra around @Toolik Field Station is coming alive. Since Friday lots of snow has melted and the flowers have begun to pop.

While out monitoring plants today near @Toolik I heard what could only be described as a bird mimicking a grasshopper. I knew there must be a bluethroat around but I did not have my binoculars. I went back and I found a handful of handsome bluethroat singing away in some willows.

A delayed congrats to undergrad researcher Rachel on a stellar thesis looking at water tracks and ice wedges @Toolik! She was a joy to work with & completed her degree, 3 minors, 2 certificates (including env edu), passed the FG, and submitted a publication all before graduating!

The first siksrik of the year has emerged from hibernation at Toolik! The Toolik ground squirrel population usually wakes a little later than those closer to the Brooks Range.
