Arsenal were there for the taking for Newcastle tonight. The home players sinking to their knees on the final whistle underlined just how nervy they and their fans were tonight. They’ll struggle to win the league if they continue to play like that. Newcastle were better than recent, they looked organised and motivated. But a lack of a cutting edge. And when they got it, they missed. I actually don’t think it was an easy chance for Wissa, but it was the finosh of a player who hasn’t scored in 2026. Woltemade looked dangerous in a rare no.10 run-out, and Tonali was the best player on the pitch. Still though, another defeat. Five on the spin… #NUFC

Thoughts? Hall dropped a big call, but defending has been sticky of late. Midfield feels more dynamic... but front three have a lot to prove. It says much that, 4.5 years post takeover, the two wingers were signed by Mike Ashley #nufc

🇮🇹 AS Roma have been invited to play at St James' Park in a preseason friendly game on the same weekend Newcastle's women's team are expected to face Inter Milan's women, with the two dates set to be confirmed shortly! It remains to be seen whether the competition will be called the Sela Cup or Sela Weekender or not this year. The front of shirt sponsorship deal with Sela is due to end this summer and while David Hopkinson is looking for new deals, the Saudi company could stay on as partners moving forward. Good stuff. The 'Sela weekenders' needed some better opposition, like the game against Atletico Madrid, after we previously played the likes of Espanyol, Girona and Stade Brest in front of a fair few empty seats. Now not knocking the likes of Brest at all, hell no, but it's hardly the name to draw the fans into St James' Park, even more so after such a painful season like this! Roma is perfect, we haven't played them since the Sir Bobby Robson days back in the late 90's so you would imagine tickets will be in high demand! 🇪🇸 Newcastle will also visit La Manga this preseason, where we last went to in 2016 when Steve McClaren took the Magpies to the south of Spain for a mid-season training camp. Let's hope we have a better outcome then that season, as despite a 2-1 win over Lillestrom there we ended up being relegated! Eddie Howe on Bruno's return: "He has had a full week of training and trained very well. He was playing on heart and spirit against Bournemouth, and you could see that he was struggling physically at times. He had minimal training, but this week will serve him really well. He’s such an important player for us on so many levels that of course, we’re keen to get him on the pitch as quickly as possible. I’ve just got to make sure it is not to his detriment. It’s great to have him back around the group, he’s such a positive person."
