How can we prevent male suicide? Well, data reliably tells us that in young men, alcohol dependence = 10x risk of suicide attempt vs gen pop & problem gambling = 15x risk. These are fundamentally health issues and governments need to stand up to the alcohol & gambling lobby now.

While it's great to see such a comprehensive plan out in the world, this is still too heavily focused on the role and responsibility of women and services to respond. We need a plan focused on male perpetration, geared toward upstream prevention & at its very core, accountability

@MovemberAUS have announced Top Blokes as a recipient of their Scaling What Works grant, which aims to supercharge promising male mental health initiatives. We’ll be expanding our Mentoring Programs to boys in schools on the Sunshine Coast over the next 2 years. #mentalhealth

@zacseidler 100%. Mental health is an important and oftentimes serious topic, but not something to fear. This plays into the same false notion of “talking about suicide encourages suicide”, which makes topics like this taboo again, with repercussions for those openly talking about it.

@Top_Blokes Great points. If we are trying to make it common place, then why tell people it's something to worry about.

How do we think the community would respond if an organisation decided to just stop using trigger warnings before #Mentalhealth content and just have support links at the end. Would it seem like they're behind the times, even if they're actually just following the research?
