Have you heard? Spring has sprung! At least, it has officially. We may have a few rainy days in the forecast, but brighter days are on their way. We've picked out some favourite books from art to fiction to natural history, to usher in the new season.

Park's book resurrects the early days of golf and one of the towns that made the game what it is today – here he is with one of our freshly-signed copies.

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Mungo Park to sign his book 'Musselburgh: The Cradle of Golf'! A small town on the Scottish coast, Musselburgh stood at the heart of the world of golf for many years... sound familiar?

You may note that we have Signed First Editions of quite a few of them...

Six books have been shortlisted for the 2026 Climate Fiction Prize! Ranging across genres and continents, the prize celebrates books that engage creatively with the climate crisis and humanity's response to it, on scales both personal and global.

(And by the way: we have "Hooked" and "Butter"'s translator, Polly Barton, coming in for an event with us on April 15th, for her excellent new novel "What Am I, a Deer?").

We seem to have caught some fresh copies of Hooked, the newly-translated book from "Butter" author Asako Yuzuki! Thrilling, tender and dark, this one might be worth casting your net out for.

They weren't so fond of this year's 'Frankenstein' adaptation, but at least we have some great editions (like this one) of the book in stock. Also for you consideration: a selection of books with Oscar-winning (and nominated) adaptations across the years!

Mikey and Murray's top pick for Best Picture is 'Train Dreams,' based on Denis Johnson's novella ('One Battle After Another,' based on 'Vineland' by Thomas Pynchon, is another favourite).

And the Oscar goes to... well, it doesn't start until 11pm GMT, so we're not quite sure yet – but today is Academy Awards day!

Here are a few books from our mathematics section that we love (and a rogue from our cookery shelves... baking is a kind of science, right?).

As you may know if you've run into a maths student this morning, today is Pi Day! Admittedly, UK date formatting (14.3 rather than 3.14) rather ruins the effect... so it's a good thing that today is also International Mathematics Day.

What a delight to have Michelle Sloan drop in to the bookshop this morning! That's the happy face of an author who's just signed lots of books. You can find Michelle's two fantastic historical novels on our fiction table - come in and buy your signed copy today! ⛸⛸

I hope you're all looking forward to Stanza! Scotland's International Poetry Festival returns to the shores of St Andrews this weekend and we have loads of featured poets past and present at the front of the bookshop to welcome you all! 🌷

We've got two new events for the (escape-)artist in you! We have a wonderful event on the history of painting with painter and Scottish art historian Lachlan Goudie. We're also delighted to welcome Chris Brookmyre back to the bookshop for a zeitgesty locked-room mystery.

To celebrate we have put together a wonderful selection of novels by incredible female authors from around the world. A mixture of some International Booker Prize longlisted books and brilliant recent releases, these are titles that you don't want to miss!

Happy World Book Day from all us booksellers! This week we've welcomed children from local schools into our kid's section to spend their book tokens and hear some readings from us – it's certainly been livening up the shop.

It's a very exciting time for prizes in the literary world – the longlist for the Women's Prize for Fiction has just been announced. Among the most prestigious of the UK's literary prizes, 2026 is the award's 30th year. How many have you read?
