@Torio116 @justin_perdue Yes. I heard this same line of thought from his former podcast partner for years too. Following Christ, the inevitable result of saving faith in Christ, involves a commitment to Him. Trying to lesson or even eliminate that reduces the faith to nothing.

“Surrender all to Jesus” is no gospel. To begin with, no one has ever done it. We need Jesus—for us, in our place—precisely because we have not surrendered all to God.

@justin_perdue This is easy believe-ism through and thorough. Obviously no one says the basis of being saved is surrendering everything. But Jesus himself said “count the cost”. Faith that has no allegiance to Jesus is not one that saves. It’s just self soothing sentimentalism.

Justification gets you out of Egypt, but sanctification gets Egypt out of you.

The whole world thinks we get righteousness through our works. The gospel proclaims we receive righteousness as God’s gift through faith in Christ.

Based on this understanding, an honest question I would seek to ask is how did the thief on the cross enter to Heaven if he did not have time to live out the fruits of his justification? Christ declared him justified and gave him the assurance of Heaven. Genuinely curious.

We get our kids tutors for math, coaches for sports, & counselors for health. However, we tell them to figure out their spiritual life on their own. That’s why many struggle. Disciple your kids & get others in their lives that will help them with the most important thing… their soul!

There is a great amount of ecclesiastical ignorance in our churches. Both in leadership and membership. They solution? Bring the standards of Scripture back to the pulpit and the polity and watch the health catch like wildfire. The Word of God brings clarity to confusion.

A pastor/elder is the one who: 1) Meets the biblical qualifications. 2) Has a desire to be in the role. 3) Has been affirmed to this position by their local church. You are not given permission in Scripture to self-identify as a pastor/elder.
