Today is said to be the hardest day of the year, and is a chance to acknowledge the sadness and depression that some may experience, especially during the winter months. We’ve put together a toolkit to help get through the days that feel hardest, knowing light will come again ✨

So much of being able to call ourselves trauma-informed is to do with how we are and not what we do. Getting to know the children and young people we teach and support in schools and what they have lived means we can truly be trauma-informed with them. #education

Relational trauma can making being in relationship unbearably painful, and learning that it’s possible to connect without pain is a huge part of trauma recovery ❤️‍🩹

For children who’ve faced uncertainty, predictable relationships and routines are a lifeline. Small, steady actions build trust: sticking to daily rituals, showing up at the same time, saying the same comforting words. Consistency says “You can count on me”. #traumarecovery

Change can feel chaotic and frightening for children who have experienced relational trauma. Stability - in relationships, environment, or expectations - helps them relax into their worlds. It’s about creating a foundation where healing can happen. #trauma #adoption #foster care

Children can start to heal when they feel safe and secure. This means not just physical safety, but emotional safety too. When children know they are met with acceptance and empathy, they can start to trust again. Let’s commit to being that safe harbour in 2025. #traumarecovery

As the new year begins, we’re reminded that not everyone needs a “fresh start”. For children with disrupted attachments and developmental trauma, the idea of starting over can reawaken previous traumatic change. Let’s build foundations that heal 🛠️
