Album Review for Bully by Kanye West Not gonna lie, this is probably the closest we’ve ever gotten to “The Old Kanye West”. This album was originally supposed to contain a lot of AI and lucky for us, a good portion of it was removed before the project was uploaded. A vast majority of the project is more of a reflection of himself, how he was viewed in the media and how he’s had internal struggles. One thing that I can say with this project is that a view tracks feel rushed, unfinished or familiar if you’ve heard the samples or the tracks from leaked sources. From a production standpoint, you have the classic Kanye sound with some 808s, synth mixes, heavy bass, gospel samples, as well as plenty of string and key instrumentals as well. Most of the tracks on the project have a big boisterous sound, but also they feel reminiscent of past projects. There are some tracks that can remind you of “Life of Pablo”, some that can remind you of “Yeezus” and even “MBDTF”. Now lyrically he does include that classic Autotune sound, and in some instances he does include an AI verse. There are some artists who have some pretty solid features such as Travis Scott and even CeeLo Green. I will say while this isn’t a lyrical masterpiece like Kanye is capable of, he has managed to make the album a little more engaging than recent releases. Overall, the album isn’t outwardly the best, but for an album that’s about 42 minutes long….its something that you can go back and find something to enjoy. The album feels nostalgic and new all at the same time, and it at least feels like Kanye gave a damn this time. That’s really all you can ask for. Favorite Tracks: This is a Must, Whatever Works Final Score: 7.4/10
