We welcomed an award-winning Capstone author to the library yesterday! Keka Novales, originally from Guatemala, created the 8-book series, Hola Lola! The protagonist, Lola, lives in Texas, but her beloved Abuelita from Guatemala keeps her rooted to wonderful family traditions.
We celebrated spring in the Townley Library during the 5th 6 weeks by "fishing for poetry" and making flying butterfly bookmarks! The books were full of beauty as well!
The fourth six weeks was full of celebration: the Texas Bluebonnet Books party, Black History Month, and the Wax Museum (which showcased some of our GT fourth graders' research)! Wow, Torchlighters! You checked out 4,693 books this six weeks!
The WAX MUSEUM in the library this morning featured fourth grade students who researched and then "became" an influential inventor or innovator! Mrs. Craft printed adorable pictures of the students in their starring roles! Parents and Pre-K came to learn.
I'm so proud of these students who read 5 or more of the Texas Bluebonnet Books on this year's list. They were each able to vote for their favorite! We all enjoyed our "Blue Party" on Friday!
From leaf rubbings and an Ozobot Thanksgiving parade in November to yarn ornaments and gingerbread houses in December, the library was filled with learning and smiles during the 3rd six weeks!
Our 4th and 5th graders learned about Tony Sarg, and his invention of the famous balloons that float through NYC during the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, through the book BALLOONS OVER BROADWAY! Then, they created their own "balloons" for a miniature, Ozobot parade.
Our Townley Library hosted a book-character pumpkin contest and a Scholastic Book Fair this six weeks! Both inspired smiles, happy chatter about books, and increased excitement about reading!
Happy Book Fair week! Our Torchlighters are excited about books! The fair is BIG this year! Come see it during literacy night this Thursday from 5:30-6:30.
Our Townley Library program is off to a great start! Students are excited to be Broadcast Team members and Library Leaders! Classes are competing on Beanstack, and students are discovering new books they love!
The last weeks of school were filled with poetry, celebrations, book returns, and new book orders. Thank you all for another wonderful year in the Townley Library! May these summer days bring you many a happy moment spent within the pages of good books!
Torchlighters shine brightly with kindness, and books help all of us grow in empathy. We focused on the power of words this six weeks through books like Taste Your Words by Bonnie Clark and Stolen Words by Melanie Florence. Reading also inspired us to code and wear hats. :)
Kindergarteners love to code! After listening to THE GREAT GRACIE CHASE by Cynthia Rylant, the students coded Sphero Indi Cars to have a race between the little dog in the story and the people chasing her. Ask your student who won! 😀
During the 4th 6 Weeks, our Torchlighters have enjoyed inspiring books, used the CARS method to evaluate websites, and tracked their reading on Winter Bingo and Beanstack!
It was a meaningful six weeks at the Townley Library as we celebrated Native American heritage, engaged in coding activities inspired by literature, hosted a family-engagement project, and checked out thousands of books-- both physical and digital!
Thank you, Townley families, for decorating our library with festive, storybook gingerbread houses! I wish you could see the wonder in the students' eyes when they look at them!
Our Torchlighters coded the Bee Bots to find the perfect little tree, after reading a picture book version of the poem, "Little Tree," by e. e. cummings.
