Apostle Femi Lazarus: When we look at your ministry, we can see vividly two men you follow—Bishop David Oyedepo and Reverend Chris Oyakhilome, can you run us through that? Pastor Emmanuel Iren: Alright. Bishop David Oyedepo was my first pastor, I'm not one of the people who found about him later, that was the church I was born into. I never missed a Sunday service because my parents never missed a Sunday service almost all my life until 2011. So from the time I remembered my consciousness, from 1993, I was a member of the church and I think that, that ingratiated in me the spirit of faith in a raw and authentic fashion. So a lot of people encounter it at some point in ministry but I grew up seeing it everyday in such a way that I didn't know any other way. I remember I was just about six years old while being up in children's church and seeing ‘Signs and wonders’ in the news paper of the ministry, they had the building plan for Canaan land, it was going to be five billion Naira or twenty five billion or something like that, I've forgotten. I was like “what kind of man is this?” My mom was an usher and I heard they used to use three days to count offering because the biggest domination was 50 Naira. As I am now, you can't convince me of lack in ministry, I've never had that picture, I don't see any other way simply because of what I saw the Lord do through the life of one man, Bishop David Oyedepo. For our dear God's servant, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, I learnt the touch of excellence, elocution in delivery, the flow of the supernatural, that's my stream. But interestingly, God used both of them as a crucible to find my own self. So if you check, you'd discover that I'm unique, even in doctrine and there are many things I hold dearly doctrinally, that is very different from the two people that God has used to train me. When you talk about the raw spirit of faith—starting something, building something, planting this church, that's Bishop Oyedepo. • No one accidentally becomes successful in anything. There's first of all, a mentality, a picture to run with, and an uncompromising commitment to see it work. He came as every other person came and rendered service. But, you that has not gotten anywhere, the moment your pictures starts appearing on a 4 by 6 flex banner and collecting small small honorarium, you immediately see yourself as a superstar that cannot back up for anyone leading anymore.
