Krzyzewski played aggressive man-to-man for years then switched to gap defense in 2010 when his team wasn’t able to defend aggressively…an analytical decision. Nolan Richardson’s 40 minutes of Hades was completely an analytical choice. Boeheim played 2-3 zone 99% of his career, leaning on the analytics that he thought gave his team an advantage. Jay Wright is like the OG of the modern analytical era. It’s time to stop the rolling of eyes attitude towards analytics. They’ve been around since the game started. Coaches are just trying to make more informed decision. Do some rely too heavily on the numbers sometimes and get burned? Sure. Has anyone relied on “his gut” and gotten burned? Of course. We’re all out here just trying to the best of our ability to win games.
