@4unclelala yes and it wouldve been the right call in this case because we didnt get a safety car until the middle of the race. ultimately they should’ve listened and let him try it the way he suggested that’s why so many pros agreed. But we won’t agree so i guess we can leave it at that
English

@TracksideTote did you consider the high chance of a safety car when you agreed with him? would you still agreed with him if he pitted and the safety car came out and all the inter runners pitted and came out ahead of him?

@4unclelala the shape of the pit lane skips t1 so you catch up to the pack quickly eg stroll
Only wouldve had to clear bot and str for p14 since the other inter runners would’ve had to pit allowing him to gain their position
I agreed with oscar in the moment too and he was confident about it
English

@TracksideTote 1. if he’d started from the pit lane he wouldn’t have come out right behind the last car.
2. yes he had a much faster car than the backmarkers but he still wouldn’t have cleared all of them in one lap.
3. the inters runners weren’t an issue
4. You’re talking with hindsight
English

@4unclelala oscar spent 24s in pit which is time that could’ve gone towards overtaking back markers like stroll/bottas since he’s in a much faster car. audis, sainz, perez had to pit too so p14. the f1 pros are right on this one yet to see one who agrees staying on was the right call
English

@TracksideTote ignore what they are saying and think for a sec. what position do you think oscar would’ve been in if he started from the pit lane by lap 2?
English

@4unclelala More seem to agree that a pit lane start would’ve better especially if oscar was requesting it and willing to take the risk so they got it wrong by not listening

“If you pit and you start from the pitlane, you lose far less time than if you stay out there and fall to the back once the race has started” Starting from the pitlane (with one of the least pitlane losses) was always the better option but some on f1twt say otherwise
English

@TracksideTote easy to say with hindsight. the only thing i agree with is that they should’ve split the strategy. again oscar came out of the pits in a better position than the one he would’ve been in if he’d started from the pit lane so they got that bit right at least.
English

@Looten_P_ They wasted time having to pit from inters to slicks in the first place as opposed to working their way up and going long. Palmer and jpm said the same
English

@TracksideTote I think Lando came out in about 14th after his first stop so thats better than back of the pack

This genuinely makes me sick…you can hear the frustration in oscar’s voice. He was practically begging them to box
English

@TracksideTote “split strategy that could favour oscar” and “mclaren” do not exist in the same universe
English

Really confused why they didn’t at least split strategies that was an extra 20s wasted changing from inters to slicks after one lap
Tøtę🏎️⚡️@TracksideTote
@4unclelala they were def doomed from the jump but jpm and jp agreed with oscar and said the better call was to start from the pitlane and not waste time changing tires during the race or at least split strategies
English

@TracksideTote Lets be real… they won’t allow split strategies in favour of oscar…
English

I have no faith in that strategy teamThey’re guaranteed to fumble again…watch them pit when no one else does and watch them use slicks when everyone else is on inters

English

@TracksideTote starting on interns was wrong but it was better than starting from the pitlane because then they would be at least 10s behind the last car. I believe oscar was p17 after he pitted so yes staying out was the right decision
English

@TracksideTote Tell me, is it too much to ask that BOTH have a good weekend??? 😭😭😭😭
