A consciência aparece depois que o estrago já está feito. E aí vem a culpa, a vergonha, o "por que eu faço isso sempre". Isso não tem nada a ver com falta de caráter, de educação ou de criação. Tem a ver com o controle inibitório, que é a capacidade do cérebro de pausar antes de agir. No cérebro com TDAH, essa função é mais lenta, menos eficiente, e precisa de muito mais esforço consciente para ser ativada do que em qualquer outro cérebro ao redor. O problema é que ninguém explica isso. O que a maioria das pessoas com TDAH recebe ao longo da vida não é explicação. É julgamento. É "você não pensa antes de agir". É "você precisa se controlar". É "você é irresponsável". Como se fosse escolha. Como se bastasse querer para conseguir frear. E aí a pessoa passa anos, às vezes a vida inteira, acreditando que tem alguma coisa fundamentalmente errada com ela. Que falta força de vontade, maturidade, comprometimento. Quando na verdade o que falta é compreensão. Sobre como esse cérebro funciona. Sobre o que ele precisa. Sobre como trabalhar com ele em vez de passar a vida inteira lutando contra ele. Quando essa compreensão chega, algo muda. A culpa diminui. A raiva vira curiosidade. E a pessoa começa a construir estratégias reais para o cérebro que ela tem, e não para o cérebro que o mundo esperava que ela tivesse
