@shivmalik @PatrioticAnglo By mentioning NIMBYs as a barrier to renewing and developing existing cities, you give them power (or is it an excuse for not choosing this route). It's a shame Nature doesn't have a voice to object to the proposed new city in this rural area.

@PatrioticAnglo Great question. But there are just so many barriers to retrofitting infra and density including NIMBYs and the rewards are so meagre in comparison.

Okay we’ve announced it. We’re building a city. The first major city in the UK for fifty years. And we want the Labour government to back it. We’ve already got amazing prominent supporters. But we need everyone to sign the pledge first to prove real demand. Sign it and read more in the link below!

@cutlerstom @RosieP4 @TrooperSnooks Yes, it's such a con. A Wild Justice report found that 75% of nest boxes required for birds and bats on new developments never materialised. But who needs bird song when the road names sound idyllic. 🤬

@RosieP4 @TrooperSnooks It’s ok, they’ll name all the new roads “nightingale avenue”, “warbler street” “water vole crescent” etc so you can remember what used to be there.

No-one with a heart and a soul can listen to this and say that introducing 400,000 homes, 1m people (& cats/dogs) plus cars, roads, industrial parks and commerce centres to countryside is good for nature. The ‘forest city’ in West Suffolk is a giant get-rich scam that will displace humans and nature from 45,000 acres of best farmland in a water-stressed region (and no one knows how to fill the Fens reservoir). Plus they want pylons across East Anglia to the coast, which is hugely environmentally destructive. Leave East Anglia alone - or support farm clusters and wildlife charities instead.

@Radmore_farm I know there are dairy farms that care about the environment and welfare but what about those routinely polluting waterways with slurry [Regenisis by George Monbiot], not to mention taking calves from mothers ["Cow" documentary]. Agree about the harm caused by oilpalm monocrops.

Switching UK products from palm oil back to real dairy fats where possible would help absorb our record milk oversupply (hitting 13.05 billion litres in 2025/26), support struggling farmers with better prices, and reduce demand for palm oil that’s linked to tropical deforestation—making it a win for local dairy and global forests in one simple swap!

@WriterHannahBT @markruskell Fantastic news! Well done, Hannah and Mark, and everyone involved in getting this significant conservation measure for swifts across the line in Scotland! Where are you, @mtpennycook? Swifts need nest bricks by law in England, not guidelines. 🙏

@co2watts @Badgeraz @domdyer70 From what I've read, walnuts, ground flaxseeds and chia seeds provide omega-3 fatty acids, as well as vegan omega-3 supplements. The Vegan Society and Plant Based Health Professionals UK websites have nutrition information that covers omega-3 from plant sources.

My 15-year-old son hasn't left his room in three months. Not since the boys at school shoved his crochet project into a trash can and filmed it, posted it with "What kind of guy does this?" while everyone laughed. I'd find him at 2 AM, surrounded by patterns he'd saved from online, yarn everywhere, eyes red from crying. "This is all I'm good at," he'd whisper. His little shop online became his only safe place while kids his age destroyed him daily for doing something they called "girly." Then last week, he emerged from his room holding this gnome outfit. "For the baby," he said, voice barely audible. His first complete costume for his 10-month-old sister. Every single stitch perfect. The pointed red hat, that fluffy white beard, those striped legs with tiny boots. When the baby giggled and reached for his face, my son smiled. First real smile in months. "Do you think it's... stupid?" he asked, waiting for me to confirm what those boys said. Stupid? My broken boy had turned months of torture into something magical. I posted these photos in his online shop while he wasn't looking. Orders came flooding in within hours. "This is professional work!" "Does he do custom orders?" "Tell your son he's incredibly talented!" He's reading every comment now, crying. Happy tears this time. Talking about maybe going back to school. Maybe finding other kids who create things. Maybe those boys were just scared of someone different. To anyone who thinks a teenage boy hiding with yarn is wasting his life, sometimes he's saving it. One stitch at a time. Please tell him what you think. He needs to hear it from more than just his mom.

@IronJoewood @CrazyVibes_1 At 13 /14 I was tearful & sensitive. I had no father & had to toughen up. At 16 I left home & went to another city/ college. At 19 I was in the arctic in December. I know how the world treats timid boys and how it respects confident men who stand up for themselves and others.

Do you agree with me? A developer offered Curlew action over £100k as compensation for building on a winter roost site for curlews - it’s for a holiday development. God knows we need the money 💰 but the world doesn’t need more glamping pods and birds need rest and food through the winter. I turned it down. Did I make the right decision?

"The problem isn’t the planning system. It’s a broken, profit-driven housing model that banks land and starves supply. Scrapping nature protections won’t build 1.5m homes, it will just bulldoze public trust and the countryside." #PlanningBill theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

We challenge Lord Krebs’ claim that Amendment 245 won’t work. Swifts DO nest in 4–5m buildings & need swift bricks to survive as old sites vanish This practical step helps save swifts from extinction. Listen to swift conservation experts! #SaveOurSwifts #SwiftBricks #PlanningBill
