This morning I have finally closed the Gold short I took on 3rd March.
It’s been the biggest trade of my career.
I want to thank everyone in EFL who sat through it with me and had to listen to me talking about it incessantly. As I said at the time, I was a long way outside my comfort zone.
I’ve made tens of thousands of trades across 25 years. I’m in at one level and out at the next. I’ve held something like this only a handful of times.
I should feel elated. And part of me does.
But I’ve spent the last three days writing my book and reliving a lot of painful times. This morning I’m too numb to feel what I probably should.
That’s trading. That’s life.

Since my day one as a trader I always was attracted to focusing on price and volume action, studying the naunces of the chart through them.
Nowadays, later in my trading journey I find them as the most valuable tools for me as a trader. They are the only indicators on my chart; this allows me to be as attentive as possible to those only leading indicators.
Moreover, time and time again, they appear to be the best way to manage a position. Therefore, I stick to them as my main and almost exclusive way to manage my trades.
Today I had a trade where I override this management rule and found myself leaving 4R on the table but reminding myself the importance and power of following price and volume action.

@stamatoudism Well said Marios, use that down time to your advantage, sharpen yourself and your strategy and attack more accurately and strongly when the good period arrives.
English

Remember that in slow periods the smartest action is not to stare at charts all day and execute boredom trades.
It's to upgrade ourselves.
Study → Adjust → Apply your new self → Loop back stronger.
The market always returns. The question is, have we updated who we are to make the most out of it?
I used to think slow periods were the enemy. As the years go by I think more and more that they are a gift and a necessity!

My book went to print today. The Art and Business of Professional Trading (Wiley).
It's not a setup guide. No buy signals, no take profit levels, no "10 rules for consistent profits." It's more like... here's a bunch of stuff we think about at the professional level that nobody really talks about publicly. Psychology, process, how edges actually work, why most people blow up, what the survivors do differently.
People who've read it early seem to like it. If you're into Alpha Trader, Fooled by Randomness, The Laws of Trading, this is in that family.
In bookstores April 30. You can preorder through Wiley or find it on Amazon, wherever you buy books. Link below.
