99% of pedestrians deaths and 94% of pedestrian serious injuries on pavements are caused by motorists.
Tony_hobson@Tonyhobson19
vine when talking about bike becomes a total lunatic, suggesting the most ridicules options just to say that cyclists don't have to have them... How often do cars hit pedestrians on the pavements? How often do cyclist? this question is NEVER ASKED... WHY? #jeremyvine

@Boenau They probably do. City authorities vexatious traffic policies often cause slip road tail backs impacting thru traffic.

Bike lanes caused this traffic jam, I'm sure of it.

@JohnSwinney What? Scottish Crown Estates actively stifles renewables with their prohibitive licensing and bidding processes and were happy to delay deals for a year in order to set much higher fees. The result skews offshore/onshore costs meaning more blight on shore.
English

@Boenau @thejournal_ie Once you started encouraging cyclists and pedestrians to ignore their own self preservation instincts and tell them that they have the right to walk and cycle anywhere at any time, mitigating measures were bound to follow.
English

@thejournal_ie Every motorist is a pedestrian as they walk to and from their car. Legislating the wardrobe of a population is a helluva thing.

A motion passed by Clare County Council has called for making high-vis jackets mandatory for pedestrians and cyclists.
It has been criticised by the Irish Cycling Campaign, which said it would push some people back towards the car.

@NowIsAllUHav @BladeoftheS @grok I remember back in the day (1994), mid 40’s I was able to get an ice cold Limka off a street vendor. On return to UK, in London a little while later, 22°, was unable to get a Coke below ambient in Euston Station ticket hall concessions. India can cope.
English

@BladeoftheS That's 117°
@grok Can you confirm these are real temperatures on the ground that people in India are experiencing?

English

@fietsprofessor @davewalker You are traffic, you can cycle to school safely using the existing traffic lanes.

@JeremyVineOn5 How many deaths TODAY by motorists? The answer is 5!
How many deaths by motorists TOMORROW? 5
Everyday 5 deaths from vehicles that are NOT bikes!
Focus on the problem.
English

@JeremyVineOn5 Speed limits do apply to 🚴♀️, however there is no specific speeding offence for a 🚴♀️.Some 👮♂️ do not enforce as 🚴♀️ have no means of determining their speed.👮♂️enforce close pass regulations (despite there being no specific close pass offence) & 🚗 have no means of measuring distance
English

@mhh02 @law_cycle @DrScottArthurMP You imply there is a requirement that the bike and its rider must fit entirely within the red boundary. 🚴♀️ are not even required to use the cycle lane. The HC recommends that where cyclists feel it is safer “they take the lane”. You can do that here without hitting the rails.
English

@TrappHerbert @law_cycle @DrScottArthurMP It too narrow for tricycles do do disabled cyclists don’t count

Cyclist injured on Edinburgh’s tram tracks secures compensation after Cycle Law Scotland discover narrow cycle lane on Leith Walk.
Cycle lane measured just 0.33m wide, well below recommended safety standards.
Tram tracks still pose major risk to cyclists.

@JohnHundeslit @BritainRemade Because he saw some one else do it.

@Ed_Miliband Who is all that extra money going to Ed? Who linked renewable prices to the gas market and why can’t the link be broken if we know it is wrong?
English

@TheEXECUTlONER_ @SusieM414141 Cyclists don’t like it when pedestrians take the lane.

This man on an electric bike is riding down the sidewalk in a park.
As he comes upon a family he yells “on your left.”
The father with his wife and kid tells him to just go on the grass.
The man on the hike stops and they have words almost leading to a fight.
As the family continues the man in the bike comes up behind them again and this time the father gives him a gentle push onto the grass. The man on the hike is going to call the cops.
So, who is the real Karen here? Is it the man in the bike or the dad?
Is the sidewalk big enough for all of them or should the guy on the bike veered off a little on the grass to get around them?
English

@TheEXECUTlONER_ @SusieM414141 Once the 🚴♀️ made the initial assault (the threat to physically harm the 🚶♀️) the 🚶♀️ had grounds to believe he was in danger and take reasonable action when the 🚴♀️ re-closed. If that is a shared route, 🚶has priority, & 🚴♀️ should dismount to pass safely.

@Ricky4238894065 @SimonHarrisMBD The UK has at least one tea plantation, at Tomich in the Scottish Highlands.
English

@SimonHarrisMBD Always makes me laugh the mental gymnastics your side do to make these weak arguments.
We dont grow tea here either
English

@Boenau If cyclists were required to be trained and regulated it would help them understand the rules and be more likely obey them. This would make the existing road space safer for everyone without the need for infrastructure modifications.
English

Cities can start with paint and posts to quickly establish a basic bike lane network, and then harden high-priority segments with concrete as funding allows. This staged approach gets more streets safer for everyone sooner rather than delaying everything for premium designs.

@BrknMan An archaeological dig in the Highlands found seeds & pollens indicating that 3k yrs ago the temp was 3K higher than today. Prehistoric timbers recovered from a bog in Ireland indicate rapid changes in environmental conditions are possible. Nothing to do with man’s CO2 emissions.
English

@Zorpheous What makes you think cycling is a sustainable transport model? Cycling requires engineered surfaces, cycle construction metals, plastics and lubricants. Not much different from cars in that respect. Are you claiming resources used by cyclists magically become renewable?
English

Using the car, SUV or whatever as a means and model for transportation of a SINGLE user/commuter is an unsustainable transportation model.
Sorry, that is just the simple truth and no amount of new lanes or new highways or tinkering with traffic light timing is going to fix this!
If your solution is make more space for cars and their drivers you will only get more cars and drivers.

English

@2Wheeledbarbie Looks like the ASL was installed without proper adjustment of the traffic light timing (to account for reduced stopping distances). This can cause cars to overshoot.
