@kavun But that’s too helpful and it removes all of the mystery, and we know that devs love to play detective! That’s why we skip on documentation and use obscure variable names like “var x.” We do it for them.

One simple naming convention pattern that has helped demystify and clarify a lot for me is this: for concrete infrastructure, put the infra explicitly in the name: PostgresSuperDb : DbContext, ISuperDb RedisSuperCache : ISuperCache HangfireSuperScheduler : ISuperScheduler

@lpdahito I say all of this as someone who was self taught for 2 years before going to a 4-year university, and have now been coding longer than I have not been. Ultimately though, neither approach is wrong and each have their pros and cons.

@lpdahito I’m definitely not saying that self taught devs don’t have that same understanding or can’t learn it, but IMHO they focus more on learning what they need to get stuff done.

Do you think programmers who learned how to code in school have an edge over self-taught ones?

@jaymeedwards If they admit their mistakes, most definitely! None of us are perfect and gotta learn somehow. When they lie, dig their heels in, pass the blame, and try to cover their tracks, that’s an issue.

Developers deserve forgiveness for bad technical decisions, defects, and being wrong on estimates. It’s how they learn. So shouldn’t managers deserve forgiveness for overpromising, hiring the wrong people, or making business decisions that hurt revenue? 🤔

This is like a cattle farmer meeting the abattoir owner to discuss their mutual efforts to prevent cow deaths. 🐄🐄
