Without Q-Tip there is no Andre 3000, Pharrell, Mobb Deep, Dilla, Kanye, and so many more. They were all inspired or assisted by him in some form. Most of the ones still living will tell you that themselves. Q-Tip deserves all his flowers for his contributions to hip-hop.
Hits Junkie@hitsjunkie

Happy 56th Birthday to the innovative Q-Tip, aka “The Abstract” 🎉 Born Jonathan William Davis (later Kamaal Ibn John Fareed) on April 10, 1970, in Manhattan, NYC, Q-Tip is the visionary MC, producer, and creative force behind A Tribe Called Quest, one of hip-hop’s most influential groups. Known for his smooth delivery, intellectual lyricism, and jazz-infused beats, Q-Tip helped redefine rap in the 90s with a style that was both laid-back and deeply thought-provoking. As the group’s primary songwriter and producer, Q-Tip crafted landmark albums like The Low End Theory (1991) and Midnight Marauders (1993). Blending head-nodding rhythms with soul, jazz, and funk samples, he set a new standard for hip-hop production. Q-Tip’s approach was cultural, paying tribute to Black musical history while pushing the genre forward. Following A Tribe Called Quest, he launched a solo career, starting with the funkier Amplified (1999) featuring “Vivrant Thing.” Later albums like the Grammy-nominated The Renaissance (2008) showcased his depth. As a producer, he significantly shaped tracks for Nas (Illmatic), Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes, and Kanye West, influencing generations of hip-hop. What's your favorite Q-Tip song or verse?

Stems are great, because it made everyone that wasn’t interested in who made the edits and remixes, completely stop looking and helped the noise calm down, so we could find really dope DJs and producers to work with.

Trying to push further what @DJ_AM did and it’s honestly……extremely difficult and is going to take a fuckton of work! Even with expertise! It won’t ever happen again in that way, but open format DJing still has a lot to offer.

If DJ AM, didn’t think it was cool, why would I ever think it was cool? Why would I ever think have a giant ego in the most sacred space of creation is genuinely, cool? Gross man!

In the most healthiest way, I’m competiting with DJ AM on a constant basis. He inspires me a lot. He helps me get through my giant ideas and he’s the most humble person that was on the planet in music, I think.

You’re almost more corny to me, playing both side when you don’t rock with someone, than just acting like you’re cool and behind closed doors you don’t fuck with them. That’s lame.

Competing with another DJ is actually pretty lame and insecure man. No other way to look at it.

I never once competed with anyone I called a brother or a peer and every single one that competed with me got their feelings and ego hurt! Don’t step over here, if you can’t back it up. Also, understand the more you compete with me, the less you grow and compete with yourself.

I’ve learned that the most gangster people in music are the ones that protect their own and also protectant of themselves. They’re humble, kind, and powerful. That’s exactly who I am.
