Many members of the Government have been forced to apologise for their part in covering up corruption. I gave Boris Johnson another chance to apologise today. He refused. He's a coward, not a leader. #PMQs

You won't hear a peep about this from Farage, Tice or Jenrick. Under the Tories, up to 400 hotels were being used to house asylum seekers. With Labour, there are now just 185, with 11 more hotels re-opening to the public, saving the taxpayer £65 million a year.
Alex Norris MP@AlexJJNorris

There were more than 400 asylum hotels under the previous government – that number has been more than halved, with 11 more closing this week. Labour is bringing the asylum system under control.

@triffic_stuff_ What does an Early Education Minister know about a global war? Nothing and should have said she can’t answer and quite honestly should not have been on the programme

This is UNBELIEVABLE. Watch this incredible exchange where the Early Education Minister Olivia Bailey is repeatedly asked a simple, straightforward question: Does the UK agree with the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz? She won't answer. Not once. She's asked SIX times! Instead, she dodges: "We will not be taking part... we believe in free navigation of the seas... we want to see free navigation of the Strait of Hormuz." She even claims, "I think I'm being clear". Clear? The answer is obviously NO, we don't agree with the blockade! But she just can't bring herself to say it. What's truly scary is this is the Early Education Minister responsible for our kids' futures and she can't even answer a basic, straightforward question. 🤦‍♂️ Incredible.

@RickSacrop If they want to downsize b4 selling then it is up to them but they won’t pay taxes on the main home unless they complete on it within 3 years of buying said property. (If they rent out either home then some tax is payable but a tenant now may mean a bigger tax bill in the end)

One of the reasons you often find elderly people, on their own, in a large house is stamp duty. If they downsize they get clobbered for tax so it isn't economically viable. Abolish stamp duty on downsizers and we will see a huge shift in the market. And HMRC get Tax on the resale

The Tories refused to negotiate. We have negotiated - with BMA officers, who agreed it and recommended it to their committee. Their committee rejected it and have refused to meet me repeatedly. There is fault here, but it’s not the Government’s. It takes two to tango.
Andrew Neil@afneil

All very well. But when it was the Tories having to deal with the hard-left resident doctors’ leaders, Labour pols like Wes Streeting said a deal could be reached if only the Tory government negotiated with them properly. So what’s the excuse for no deal now?

@RickSacrop Not really. No one pays taxes on selling even after many years of main ownership. If they have to pay SDLT on new property then fine

And now I’m here in one of my favourite London pubs. The Nag’s Head in Belgravia. Owned by an ex guardsman who hates most of his customers and makes up the price of the drink depending on how much he dislikes you. I love him! Great bloke. Sadly, he’s not in today for first time since I’ve been coming here, but that does mean I managed to take these photos. If he’d been here I’d have been thrown out the second I lifted my phone. The world is a better place with characters like him. Cheers 🥂

@realninawysocka Close but no cigar. It all technically comes from the Middle East but it is sanctioned so it is shipped to India they then do a STS transfer. It then becomes Indian oil and we buy it. 20% is legit. 80% is laundered through India.

Interestingly enough, the UK doesn’t receive any of its oil via the Strait of Hormuz. Not a drop.

The reason I have retained £55 from last years council tax is primarily because the bottles have not been collected for a month - and other missed in year - and it gives me chills how embarrassing it is that a) @DorsetCouncilUK can’t collect & b) how full it is!!!

We don't need a "housebuilding push" to boost the economy. Even if we did that it would take years to feel the effects (but we have an oversupply in any case). Scrapping stamp duty permanently would IMMEDIATELY boost the economy and unlock pent up social mobility.
