TOURISM JOBS OUTPACE OTHER INDUSTRIES
South Africa’s tourism sector is driving strong economic growth and job creation, outperforming several traditional industries.
The sector supported nearly 954,000 direct jobs in 2024, representing 5.7% of the workforce, with about one in 18 South Africans employed in tourism.
Its contribution to GDP rose to 4.9%, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
Total tourism spending reached R779.2bn, led by domestic travellers.
International arrivals also rebounded, hitting 10.5 million in 2025, with continued growth in early 2026.
