Matiphamdile Sotheni Denies Murder Charges In Court: “I Have Nothing To Do With This Crime” “I’m innocent.” These were the emphatic words of Matiphamdile Sotheni as he appeared before the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court in connection with the killing of Marius van der Merwe, also known as “Witness D.” Sotheni, a former Special Task Force officer, faces serious charges including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was expected to apply for bail, but proceedings took an unexpected turn when he interrupted and asked to address the court directly. In a dramatic moment, Sotheni told the court he does not know the lawyer appointed to represent him, claiming the legal representative had never consulted with him or taken any instructions. “I want to assist the court, your worship. In the interest of justice and the allegations that were levelled against me, I deny them fully. I have nothing to do with this crime,” he said. He further stated under oath that this was the first time he had seen the lawyer in court. “I want to state in English, your worship, because the lawyer here, it is the first time I see him today. He has not been given instruction by me, he did not even take my statement,” Sotheni told the court. Maintaining his innocence, he expressed frustration over the public attention surrounding the case, saying his name has been widely circulated and “dragged through the mud” on social media. “I’m arrested here for something I did not commit and the instructions are coming left, right and centre. I’m being decided upon, I have not done anything here,” he said. The matter has been postponed to May as the case continues.

Build yourself. Aura is something money cannot buy. Some people have everything and still feel intimidated by someone who simply carries himself well. Presence, confidence, discipline, self-respect can't be purchased.

too real cos night brushing does the real work... all day you eat, drink and build up bacteria and if you go to sleep without brushing, you’re giving that bacteria hours to sit and damage your teeth while your mouth is dry... morning brushing is more about fresh breath but night brushing is what actually protects your teeth.
Dr. Sharyf@__Sharyf

Brushing your teeth before bed is more important than brushing your teeth in the morning.

The "Big 5" (also called "The Firm") This refers to an alleged sophisticated Gauteng-based criminal syndicate exposed during South Africa's 2025 Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into the capture of the criminal justice system by organised crime. It is accused of drug trafficking, tender fraud/manipulation, contract killings, extortion, kidnappings, money laundering, armed hijackings, and cross-border vehicle theft, while using "fixers" (including senior SAPS officers and politicians) to infiltrate police, politics (e.g., ANC links), and the justice system for protection. The five alleged core members/leaders (publicly identified via commission testimony from Crime Intelligence head Lt-Gen Dumisani Khumalo and others) are: 1. Jonathan “King Mswazi” / Jothan / Jotham Zanemvula Msibi (late, died January 2024) ■Who is he⁉️: Feared Pretoria taxi-industry leader and transport mogul; former president of the South African Local and Long Distance Taxis and Buses Organisation. Described in testimony as the cartel's "president." ■Businesses: Dominant player in the taxi industry; owned a game farm north of Pretoria (frequented by politicians and business figures). ■Illegal activities alleged: Headed the syndicate's operations; tied to the broader criminal underworld and taxi violence. ■Scandals/rumours: Portrayed as ruthless and dangerous in industry killings. His ex-wife and sister-in-law were arrested in 2000 for allegedly plotting to assassinate him. Commission witnesses (including organised crime members who called him a "father figure") link him to cartel infiltration of police and politics. Rumours swirl about his farm as a hub for powerful connections; some call him the foundational "kingpin" whose death didn't dismantle the group. 2. Steve / Steven Motsumi ■Who is he⁉️: Low-profile Johannesburg businessman and taxi operator with ties to Gauteng taxi bosses. ■Businesses: Taxi operations, construction, money lending, and possible chrome mining interests (North West). ■Illegal activities alleged: Member of the Big 5; accused of facilitating police leaks and extortion. ■Scandals/rumours: Recently labelled "South Africa's most feared criminal boss" by KZN Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who noted senior officers (e.g., Hawks head) were too scared to name him publicly. Madlanga testimony revealed Gauteng organised crime sergeant Fannie Nkosi sharing classified police documents with him (e.g., chrome theft suspects before court). Allegations are that he has taken over cartel operations post-Msibi; linked to meetings with suspended SAPS deputy commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and Vusimuzi Matlala. Rumours portray him as controlling tenders, officials, and narcotics with deep police influence. 3. Phehello / Irvin / Phelo Mthakathi ■Who is he⁉️: Taxi boss and businessman; associate of the late Msibi. ■Businesses: Taxi industry; private security. ■Illegal activities alleged: Big 5 member; accused of using police backchannels for sensitive info. ■Scandals/rumours: Heavy scrutiny in the Armand Swart murder investigation (Vereeniging engineer killed April 2024 in a mistaken-identity hit). Within hours of the killing, he contacted Sgt Nkosi (30+ calls), shared a suspect's ID (Danny/Floyd Mabusela, linked to him), and accessed CCTV footage days later. -He sent Nkosi lists of taxi violence cases tied to Msibi's circle. -Rumours tie him to protecting cartel interests in taxi wars and using "back-door" police access; described as having a close social relationship with officers.
