Back in 2013 when I was just starting my field work on migration I spent a lot of time in SA border towns. The healthcare systems had been expanded to accommodate an I flow of migrants who needed urgent care. South Africa carries a disproportionate load of responsibility.
You work at Deloitte so you don’t have to worry about losing your job to a foreigner willing to take a 50% pay-cut. This is something the waiter at your favourite restaurant has to deal with. This is what the construction worker next to your office park has to deal with. The car guard outside “Pantry” has to deal with this. It’s not a coincidence that many of these jobs are taken by foreigners.
You live in a gated community with 24-hour surveillance so you can sleep peacefully at night. You don’t live in central Joburg next to buildings hijacked by foreigners that house drug dealers/users and criminals.
You buy your fresh food at Woolies so you rarely have to worry about your food being spoiled. Your child isn’t sick because they bought repackaged rotten food at the Somalian spaza shop down the road.
This is why I’ve been enjoying the content from the digital nomads infiltrating Cape Town. You didn’t see an issue when poor people were complaining about the effects of mass-immigration. But now that your favourite coffee spot is charging you R70 for a latte and your rent has almost doubled—now the “government has to do something” 😂
That’s why it’s very important for you to shut TF up if you come from a place of privilege.
Corruption didn’t just steal money in South Africa… it stole opportunities.💔
It stole jobs from graduates sitting at home.
It stole proper healthcare from our grandparents.
It stole service delivery from communities that are still waiting.
We could’ve been so much further as a country.
South Africans and are unemployed bro. People out there are genuinely struggling. The thing about corruption, it affects thousands of South Africans while you’re living your lavish lifestyle. It’s inhumane guys.
Freezing their assets is not enough, we want to see arrests.
We want to see people get procured for corruption and actually serve prison sentences ...very long sentences
I need a job. I hope a qualification in IT and 2-3 years experience in Technical Support 🙏🏽 Already been to 4 interviews this year with no success. I'm even thinking of furthering my studies for next year.
Ey I need a job even if it's an Internship or Learnership
