Don’t underestimate how much Trump likes Russia because of its size. He just likes the size. It looks really big on the map. And he really likes that.

It’s worth remembering that, with few exceptions, Trump doesn’t have beliefs - only fleeting dispositional states. It is constitutively impossible for a person like that to “change his mind” or “make a U-turn.” Media should stop using that language.

Much ill people’s conversation with well people about illness is structured but the incapacity of well people to bear the thought that they could get ill too.

In a culture that doesn’t trust experts, the question arises: who has expertise about expertise? The answer is philosophers. The expertise of philosophers is understanding where the expertise of experts begins and ends, including their own. This doesn't make philosophers right - it just makes errors they make about expertise professional errors.

Can’t be emphasised enough that “ethics” is not a regulatory or bureaucratic endeavour, but about our fundamental orientation to our lives - what really matters and what particular people mean to us, something that we have to be prepared to revise in the light of experience and reflection.
