April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Law Enforcement across the State will be participating in a Hands Free Enforcement Project April 6-10 to educate drivers about the importance of driving distraction free. Buckle up and put your phone down.

Three Snows On A Robin’s Tail? IDK, I’ve lost count on the number, but this snow is no joke! Blizzard conditions through tonight. If you don’t have to be out in this, stay home and think of Spring. It’s almost here.

Plan accordingly if you are celebrating this St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

I was fortunate to attend the Boys State B-Ball game at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines, Carrol Vs Ballard, and help run the Lidar Races at the end of the first quarter. A fun game to help promote the State Tournament, the Teams and the Iowa State Patrol.

Sincere condolences and prayers go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Corporal Timothy O’Conner, of the Pennsylvania State Police. On 3/8/26 Corp. O’Conner was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop for an erratic driver.

On Friday March 13th, The Iowa State Patrol will be participating in the “313” Enforcement Project, in memory of Trooper Ted Benda #313. Enforcement efforts will focus on speed, seatbelts, impaired drivers, distracted drivers, cell phones, and other violations.

The Iowa State Patrol will be participating in an Avenue of the Saints Project today, focusing our enforcement efforts on the S.I.D.E initiative, Seatbelts, Impaired Driving, Distracted Driving, and Excessive Speed. Drive safe!

As we head into Superbowl weekend and look forward to watching Super Bowl LX (60), please plan ahead if you are going to be consuming alcohol. Have a sober driver or Ride Share, wear your seatbelt, and never drive distracted. Have a safe and fun weekend.

Snow is coming down and roads are deteriorating. Crashes are occurring around the State. Avoid driving if you can.

A thick blanket of fog has descended on the our State. Reduce your speed and stay safe!

Just a reminder: Iowa’s Hands-Free Law goes into effect tomorrow, July 1st. Law Enforcement will be conducting an enforcement project July 1-3, educating the public on this law. Warnings issued the first 6 months, then citations starting January 1.
