The Selkirk Rex is defined by an autosomal incomplete dominant woolly rexoid hair (ADWH) abnormality that is characterized by tightly curled hair shafts. Heterozygous cats exhibit a full, randomly curled coat, whereas homozygous cats have a tight, soft and wavy curl, similar to the Cornish Rex. In addition to the curl pattern, homozygous cats also display a more slender body composition with bigger ears and a less rounded appearance of the head. The inbreeding coefficient of the Selkirk Rex population is low, on par with domestic cats of no specific breed.

@AMAZlNGNATURE The harpy eagle takes the title of the strongest hunter, with the ability to tackle prey as big as them. Eagles like to play with their food, too. In mountainous regions, they’ll pick up large prey using their huge talons and kill it by dropping it from high cliffs.

@sciencegirl A scientist recently snapped a series of shining arcs and halos of light surrounding the sun in the sky above the U.K., including an exceptionally rare ring of light that circled the entire sky.

@sciencegirl The Salar was formed as a result of transformations between seven prehistoric lakes that existed around four thousand years ago but all evaporated over time. It is now covered by an 8 meter thick layer of salt, which is extremely flat.

According to the Chinese state media outlet CCTV, the store stocks drinks and some snacks, including potato chips. Prices are not hiked up either, with the price of bottled water capped at 2 yuan ($0.30). "The store doesn't make much money, but the tourists are very grateful for it, so we all feel like our jobs are very meaningful," a worker told the outlet. Only one worker is stationed inside the boxy space at any given time — and part of their job is to replenish the store's supplies every morning before dawn.

This store is in Shiniuzhai National Geological Park, Hunan, China and it's quite peculiar. The small wooden box that hangs on the side of a mountain provides refreshments to climbers who need a quick break in the middle of their climb.

Whale sharks spend nearly eight hours a day gulping around 10,000 gallons of ocean water. At nearly 40 feet long, they seem like they could eat whatever they want. But they’re really after plankton—microscopic plants and animals. The opening of a whale shark’s throat is covered with about 20 giant pads that have hundreds of tiny holes. As the seawater goes in, these pads filter out the food, sort of like a colander catching spaghetti while the cooking water drains out. Then the water escapes through the shark's gills, and the food is pushed down its throat. Scientists have also observed whale sharks eat while ''standing uз'' in areas with a lot of prey, like large schools of anchovies or other small fish. With its tail pointed toward the ocean floor and its mouth toward the surface, the shark opens and closes its massive four-foot-wide mouth to create suction. The pressure pulls in the surrounding water, along with the fish.

@Rainmaker1973 These fish can breathe air. Betta fish can breathe air just like you or me, thanks to their labyrinth organ. This special organ works in a very similar way to our lungs, allowing them to breathe air at the water's surface, as well as underwater.
