From one packet of Ratio broad beans this is (most of) the Harvest. Not bad for a cool year, I have been eating them already and they're delicious :)

🌱 Over the past few days, we've been teaming up with the incredible folks from the LIFE on Machair project to collect Marram (Ammophila arenaria) seeds. These seeds will play a crucial role in the mission to protect and restore the eroded sand dunes of Galway in 2024. 🎉✨

@entropis1 Thank you Christian. When we say a flower is of native Irish origin, it means I can tell you where I collected its parents. Please support us, good to have native seed producers for the times when you do need seed. Aim for the right seed, in the right place at the right time

There is actually no need for wildflower mixes in most cases. Just create meadows that you don’t mow and they will move in because the wildflowers are native to the landscape. 😉 If seeds are needed the best bet I know of is true harvest seeds. They sell wildflower seeds actually collected in Ireland @TrueHarvestSeed

What’s really in your 'wildflower' seed mix? A new study by @noeleenbotanics of @ucddublin reveals only 25% of species in 7 common wildflower seed mixes are native to Ireland. None of the packets gave details of where the seed was sourced More here ➡️ tinyurl.com/42xu4jzf

@NeilReid81 @SimonGray14 We've about 1,000 plant species with bankable seed that are native. The greatest threat to their survival currently is the importation of native species that are marketed and therefore spread about, as native. The imports can hybridise with the indigenous and we lose the native.

Have you spotted your first bumblebee of 2024? 🐝👀 As spring approaches, some bumblebee queens start to emerge from hibernation, while others enjoy a longer lie in. Here is a quick Q and A thread about snoozing queens and what to do if you find one: 🧵1/8

@ismiseleenie Are they attached? One almost looks like it has a stem. They remind me of immature flower heads, just before they burst out.

Absolutely ecstatic today!!! From being near-extinction in Liverpool, the number of reintroduction sites for Devil’s-bit Scabious is growing! Today at Childwall Golf Club, I spotted tens of small plants from those seeds we harvested from @WWTMartinMere back in 2022. Ahhh 😍😭🌱

While out with @WWTMartinMere collecting Devil’s-bit Scabious seed for grassland restoration, we found one of the very 1st English sites for the rare and at-risk Scabious smut (Microbotryum succisae)! It’s a Sexually Transmitted Infection that turns anthers white with spores 😍🌱

For annuals, you can let the seed drop in late summer. At some point between then and early spring, clear away the old growth brash. Annuals tend to like disturbed/weeded ground. Sometimes you see babies in late autumn and some in spring, leave them and they'll come on.

1. The Wildflower Annual wildflower species germinate, bloom, set seed and die in one year. Biennial wildflowers have a life cycle of two years, they germinate and grow one year, then bloom, set seed and die the following. Species which last longer than two years are perennial

@mothgarden Yes it is indeed. Thanks, I'll take a look in the morning and correct. We have saved both in the past, in fact we have 3 Crambe m. growing in our raised beds. We did have Mertensia m. as well but it doesn't like the raised beds so, it only lasts a few years then doesn't come back

@TrueHarvestSeed You might want to correct the mistake on the home page, Mertensia maritma is Oyster Plant. (The scientific name for Sea Kale is Crambe maritima)
