Hillsborough Law Now update - Following a meeting with some of our directors on 6th march, the Attorney General and Ministers pledged to contact @NowHillsborough by 20th March, with a resolution to the amendment relating to Intelligence Services. That deadline was not met, and we are now being told that the government needs just a few more days. This week, we also wrote to the Home Secretary to ask her to meet with us, given that she is the cabinet minister responsible for MI5! However, she has refused to meet us on the basis that the Attorney General has the issue in hand. But he does not! This is what we are up against. The motto appears to be "Tell them what they want to hear, and it will keep them quiet a little bit longer." Well, we won't stay silent. Silence did not expose the cover-up of the Hillsborough Disaster. Hillsborough Survivors were not vindicated because they stayed silent. Silence didn't expose the cover up of Labrats, Infected blood, Post Office Scandal, the Birmingham pub Bombings, the Manchester Arena terror attack, the Covid Pandemic, the Primdos medication, or the cover up of the death of little Zane Gbangbola. Silence did not expose the lies told by South Yorkshire Police and the contempt they had for the members of Orgreave. Silence didn't expose the rape and sexual exploitation of the young girls who were victims to Grooming Gangs. And even though Nottingham Police Force tried their hardest to keep the press silent, it was the voices of others that exposed their disgraceful failures. There have been times when our voices are all that we had. Let's not forget that this Bill was pledged by 15th April 2025, and we are now approaching 15th April 2026! The Public Accountability Bill aims to give a legal duty of candour to ALL public servants and officials. That has absolutely nothing to do with National Security, and let us be very clear, we would never call for a law that compromised the safety of the people of this country. Quite the contrary. We want to protect the people of our country, and we want the Hillsborough Law that was pledged in this Labour Partys Manifesto, because THEIR Silence is DEAFENING and we will not be treated like this any more. Our @NowHillsborough campaign is made up of members from multiple campaign groups from various injustices. There have been many occasions where the have travelled to London, attended meetings with very little notice, rearranged work shifts/child care/commitments, sat in rooms with members of the government and consistently relived their trauma to highlight why a Public Accountability Bill is imperative. In January the Report Stage Hearing of this Bill was cancelled at 9pm the evening before, several members were already on their way to London.! They didnt grumble or complain, they understood and reiterated how important it is to get this right. To now be left with no meaningful update or any communication is wrong. This can all be resolved very quickly and the Bill continue its journey through parliament! For those who have been following for #HillsboroughLaw updates, I am very disappointed to say that, unfortunately, there still is not one for us to give. Following the cancellation of the Report Stage hearing on 19th January, we (@NowHillsborough) have not had any meaningful update or meeting with members of the government, despite multiple requests for some form of resolution and/or update. Whilst we are not naive enough to think that the Public Accountability Bill is the only thing on the Prime Ministers desk, we equally find it frustrating that we are being met with such a lack of candour! A #HillsboroughLawNow thread It has been almost 37 years since the Hillsborough Disaster 51 years since the Birmingham Bombings. 49 years since the convictions of the "Shrewsbury 24" were overturned. The Infected Blood Scandal started as far back as 50 years ago, and people have continued to die ever since. 48 years since the Association for Children Damaged by Hormone Pregnancy Tests formed their campaign group. We know that Grooming Gangs have been operating for at least 30 years. They STILL continue today. Nuclear test veterans were exposed to radiation during atomic tests that took place nearly 74 years ago and occurred over a period of 15 years. 26 years since the nightmare began for all those involved in the Post Office Scandal. 12 years since 7 year old Zane Gbangbola died in his bed. Nearly 8 years and 9 months since the Manchester Arena Terror attack. 8 years since it emerged that the Home Office had not properly recorded the details of those involved in the Windrush Scandal. 7 years since the horrific Grenfell Tower Fire. 6 years since 15 year old Gabriel Santer fell to his death and 6 years since the Covid-19 pandemic claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. 3 years since Headteacher Ruth Perry took her own life following the brutal, unfair OFSTED inspection. Too many different injustices with the common factor that NO ONE has ever been held accountable for the wrongdoings and the cover-up of every single appalling tradgey listed above. Those of us left behind are bereft, exhausted, forced to relive the trauma time and time again, and yet we STILL wait for a Public Accountability Bill. In its entirety. 4 weeks since we agreed on a brief pause whilst the amendment for Intelligence Services was dealt with. Yet STILL have to wait. We STILL sit here in deep angst as we wait for change. @altontowers and Merlin Entertainments have changed their Ride Access Pass criteria by removing the "struggles with crowds" element. This means that many of those who are diagnosed with ADHD and Autism have had their RAPs cancelled. This excludes so many who genuinely can not stand in a narrow queue, in close proximity to others, with no way of a quick exit, for long lengths of time. The RAP queue is not a "fast track". It is a virtual queue that gives the rider an allocated wait time before they can access their next ride. This means that the Autistic/ADHD diagnosed rider can take their time making their way to the next ride, utilise other facilities inbetween and facilitate important cares like toileting needs, medication doses, use of the sensory areas. I welcome the Government’s decision to withdraw its #HillsboroughLaw amendment on a duty of candour for intelligence officers, which many of us felt weakened the Bill. I also welcome the postponement of Third Reading to allow for further discussions, and I urge the Government to adopt my amendments, which meet the concerns of the families, campaigners, MPs and the #HillsboroughLawNow team. It is imperative that any legislation leaving the Commons is truly worthy of being called the Hillsborough Law before it proceeds to the Lords. #JFT97

This pause, whilst frustrating, gives the chance for government to listen further & agree an amendment to prevent cover-ups by the intelligence services without changing existing national security safeguards. The Hillsborough Law must leave the commons with the families support.

We welcome the government listening to the campaign, families, MPs and supporters by withdrawing their security services amendment. We shall engage further with government to ensure the bill fully applies to the security services whilst not jeopardising national security.

There are 24 hours to go until the Report Stage debate of the Public Accountability Bill. .@Keir_Starmer you still have the power to pull your amendment in relation to Intelligence Services. You promised a "Hillsborough Law" in its entirety, and although it's 95% there, this amendment excludes some of our campaigners. You've been fantastic so far and like I said again on friday, I believe in you. I know you want whats right for the people of our country. Please dont destroy all that we have achieved.
