Three Dead in Suspected Hantavirus Outbreak Aboard Atlantic Cruise Ship
Three people have died following a suspected hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius, which was sailing from Argentina to Cape Verde. Health officials have confirmed one case of the virus, with five additional suspected infections under investigation. A British passenger remains in intensive care in Johannesburg. The ship, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, departed Ushuaia on March 20 and was due to arrive in Cape Verde on May 4.
Authorities say the first victim, a 70-year-old passenger, died on board and was later transferred to Saint Helena. His wife, 69, also fell ill during the voyage and died after being evacuated to South Africa. Hantavirus is typically linked to exposure to infected rodent waste, though rare human-to-human transmission can occur. The World Health Organization is now coordinating response efforts, including medical evacuations and a broader public health risk assessment for those still on board.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

Trump fell asleep again during a live televised meeting. If Joe Biden had done that, the media would have treated it like a national emergency and run wall-to-wall panic coverage for a week.
