@SnDMediaNews If convicted, he should be deported upon release, for the sake of public safety. I don’t know what made him attack that woman, but I can guess. He’s North Africa, women are treated less by men there. His culture didn’t change when his feet touched Irish soil.
Abdelilah Habbouly (36) Charged After CCTV Crimecall Appeal Over Brutal Unprovoked Elbow Assault in Cork
A Garda public appeal for information, including a feature on RTÉ’s Crimecall programme, has led to the arrest of a man over an unprovoked assault in Cork city centre last November.
Detective Garda Conor Cronin arrested Abdelilah Habbouly (36), of Meadow Park, The Meadows, Hollyhill, Cork, and he was brought before Cork District Court on Monday afternoon.
Habbouly was charged with assault causing harm to a woman on Oliver Plunkett Street on November 23, 2025, contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
The court heard that the victim was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken orbital bone (eye socket) as a result of the random elbow strike. She required hospital treatment for her injuries.
Sergeant John Kelleher told the court there was no objection to bail, which was granted on a number of conditions. These included him to Reside at his home address, signing on at Gurranabraher Garda Station three times a week, surrendering his passport and having no direct or indirect contact with the injured party.
He was also told to remain contactable by phone at all times by An Garda Síochána.
Frank Buttimer Solicitor was assigned to represent the accused on free legal aid.
The original Garda appeal featured CCTV footage of the incident on Crimecall, which ultimately led to Habbouly’s identification and arrest.

On the application of Sergeant Kelleher, Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the case to June 29 to allow time for directions to be received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
