@megbasham You clearly don't understand what you're doing to your future relationship with your daughter. You are proving that you don't trust her and at the same time that she shouldn't trust you. I legitimately hope you realize that your kid is worth trusting sooner rather than later.

I’m torn, because on the one hand, I feel like the home groups have a more bonding social aspect that has allowed us to make friends in a new church faster. But yes, you’re correct. The problem there is I’ve also been in plenty where it was very clear that we were getting off the rails scripturally. The classes at our church now are on campus on Wednesdays are much more theologically sound. I wish there was a way to marry both of these aspects.

Unpopular pastoral opinion: Losing the midweek gathering of the church and replacing it with “small groups” in homes on various nights has been a net negative for the fortification and mission of the church. There are positives, there are negatives. Overall, it’s been an L.

I support Carrie Prejean Boller 💯! She stopped by my office today with her husband, and I gave her one of the debt badges that I invented to show my appreciation for her bravery with respect to the White House Religious Freedom Commission. I’m inspired by her resolve.

Sola Scriptura is functionally "Scripture according to my interpretation," backed by whatever men agree with me. It is the exaltation of private judgment over the Bible, reinforced by other men who share that same judgment. Every time a Protestant declares something to be "biblical," he is either appealing to his own interpretation of the text or to heretics like John MacArthur to validate that interpretation.

This is absolutely disgusting. Michael Spangler calls The Hiding Place, by Corrie Ten Boom, "One of the most subversive books around." If you cannot see how this statement is positively*dripping* with evil, then you have lost your moral compass, your sense of reason, or both. I have blocked @spanglermt and suggest you do the same.

Aborting a baby at 39 week is murder. Aborting a baby at 1 week is murder. Both are bad. Both 1 wk and 39 wk babies deserve equal protection under the law.

The actions of the UK government today in murdering unborn children up to the point of birth demonstrates that God has given the UK over (and, seemingly, the West in general) to its own self-destruction.

This afternoon, I held my baby niece, who is 10 days old. Tonight, I'm watching my parliament debate whether babies her same size and stage should be allowed to be aborted, even days before their birth. Our society surely can't be this barbaric.

@kierandwane @LoisMcLatch Um… some babies are born at 41 weeks, others at 32. And “abort” is just a euphemism for “kill” so, yeah, delete your comment and write something that makes sense and isn’t barbaric

Exactly: Proving that the Puritans were not the dour, joyless people they are often portrayed to be, the Puritan preacher Benjamin Wadsworth invited the men in his congregation to “rejoice with the wife of thy youth… Let her breasts satisfy thee at all times. And be thou ravished always with her love” (Proverbs 5:18-19 KJV). Puritan leader William Perkins wrote that sex between a married couple should be “an holy kind of rejoicing and solacing themselves.” The typical stereotype is that the Puritans were sexually repressed, but the reality is just the opposite: They actually rejected asceticism (severe self-denial) because they identified that view with the Catholic elevation of celibacy over marriage. Instead they argued for the value of marriage. The Puritan minister John Cotton rejected the medieval view that women were an “unclean vessel,” that they were the tempters of men, or a necessary evil for the purpose merely of reproduction. Cotton wrote that women, rather than being “a necessary Evil are a necessary Good.” Many Puritans addressed their spouse as their “best friend.” Cotton Mather mourned the death of his wife, calling her “My dear, dear, dear Friend.” When John Winthrop wrote letter to his wife Margaret, he addressed her as “My Love, My Joy, My Faithful One.” He often ended his letters with phrases like, “I kisse my sweet wife.” (from The Toxic War on Masculinity)

Surprisingly, the first to pass a law against wife beating were the much-maligned Puritans. The Puritan clergy started by preaching against wife beating. The Puritan minister Cotton Mather taught that for “a man to Beat his Wife was as bad as any Sacriledge.” He warned husbands not to “vex and despise their wives, whom they are commanded to love.” Another Puritan minister wrote that the wife-beating husband “shames his profession of Christianity, he breaks the Divine law, he dishonors God and himself, too.” Then, in 1641 the Massachusetts Bay colony enacted the first law anywhere in the world (that historians know of) against wife beating: “Every married woman shall be free from bodily correction or stripes by her husband.” The law was soon amended to include wives beating their husbands, as well as “unnatural severity” against children and servants. One Massachusetts man was even brought to court and fined when neighbors complained that he told his wife she was “but his Servant.” (from The Toxic War on Masculinity)
Mendy@justbeingmendy

@NancyRPearcey It would then take until the 1930’s for a woman to not be considered property and be treated the ways mentioned above and still in 2026 an argument that it is not ok to physically or sexually abuse women and children.
