After a long battle with the rare Stevens–Johnson syndrome, which caused him severe ulcers and painful burns that exhausted his body, he repeatedly asked to travel abroad to receive medical treatment, hoping for a chance to recover. However, the occupation and the closure of border crossings prevented him from obtaining the necessary medication and medical care, ultimately leading to his death after a painful and difficult struggle.

I am from the city of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza. I was displaced on the first day of the war, and for nearly two and a half years now I have been living the life of displacement. I moved to the central Gaza Strip, specifically to Al-Nuseirat refugee camp, where I still reside today. Today, I decided to head north, to Gaza City, simply to visit my friends. A very long time has passed since I last saw them. We took Salah al-Din Street, the main road that connects the north and south of the Gaza Strip, and all the information we had was that this road was safe and posed no danger. But the moment we entered the street, we were shocked by a frenzied barrage of gunfire from the occupation forces. The firing was intense, and quadcopter drones were hovering heavily in the sky, firing directly at us. We were forced to get out of the car, not knowing where to go, where to flee, or where to find safety. Sadly, more than one person was martyred in those moments, and many others were injured. I hid beneath a destroyed building, trembling with fear, until the moment came when very quickly I managed to escape and survive. Luck was on my side this time. Imagine this… in a single moment, I could have been among the martyrs. I don’t know why they do all this to us. I don’t understand the reason for this ongoing torment. All I know, and all I wish for, is to feel safe even if only for one day.
