@davefranklin Haven’t seen the movie yet but this is played pretty slapstick in the book too. He starts panicking that he might be a pedophile when he remembers he really likes kids then has a *phew* moment when he remembers he’s a teacher.

The opening scene in the film is the same as the book: Grace wakes up from hibernation with no memory of who or where he is. He doesn’t know he’s in space. In the film, this is immediately played for goofy Gosling slapstick. It works fine but Judge Franklin had to acclimatise.

I enjoyed Project Hail Mary, but there’s a scene where something tragic happens and Gosling is told he is needed for what is essentially a suicide mission… and he instantly fires off about 9 jokes and I just thought would it fucking kill this film to be even 20% more serious?
