For the record, I've spoken to many trans people in my life and traveled across the country as I campaign. I hear from families with a trans parent and have heard the fear they feel. I have spoken with young people who are stigmatized for even socially transitioning. I hear about how the state is being used against someone's autonomy and medical decisions. That is wrong. I want healthcare in the hands of an individual to make decisions in consultation with their doctor. And like in any medical atmosphere, if a child is the patient, their parent should have jurisdiction over decision making, not the government so long as no abuse or neglect is present. I have always advocated that surgery to treat gender dysphoria should be reserved for those over 18 years old. As for education, I also want the power to be in the hands of parents and students to decide the best education for them instead of a centrally planned system. As much as possible, we need a decoupling of education and the state. You can choose how your child is educated, and others can do the same. And may the best schooling win in the free market.
