The 2025 repatriation was achieved through close collaboration between the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, RSCF, Tusk, DHL and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

There are two species of hippos: the common hippo and the pygmy hippo... can you guess which one is pictured? 📸

Their feeding shapes vegetation patterns along the water edge, and their dung contributes to aquatic food web. Despite their 'cute' exterior, hippos are one of the largest land mammals and are known to be highly territorial and very dangerous.

Today we celebrate #WorldHippoDay! Hippos have extremely thick but sensitive skin; they spend most daylight hours immersed in or covered in mud to protect themselves from burning ☀️
