In the Mucheene family at Lewa, genetics take centre stage. Their signature curved tusks are a hereditary trait passed down through generations, a living map of their ancestral legacy.

Territorial fights can turn brutal, especially when two powerful bulls compete for dominance! Recently, the KWS Northern Kenya Mobile Veterinary Unit, led by Dr. Sharon, together with the Lewa Veterinary Unit, responded to an injured white rhino bull in @LewaConservancy .
The bull had deep inguinal lacerations and multiple wounds across its body, injuries suspected to have resulted from a territorial clash with another male. The team thoroughly cleansed and debrided all wounds before administering systemic treatment, after which the rhino was released back into hs natural habitat and will remain under close and continuous monitoring.
Every intervention helps ensure that this iconic species continue to survive and thrive in the wild for generations to come!
