Did you know that your 'confidential' health record is being sold for huge profits? This includes your diagnoses, prescriptions, services, treatments, etc. While HIPAA requires that this info is 'de-identified', all that means is that your name and other identifying info is excluded. However, you're identity is assigned a code and it is possible to be re-identified using other means. Your health info is sold for many reasons, one major is for healthcare advertising and to re-target you specifically. Who is selling this info? Hospitals, EHRs, claims processing, health insurance companies, providers, etc. AI technology is increasingly able to use this data to better identify and advertise to specific individuals. Additionally, this technological infrastructure can be hijacked and used for even more nefarious purposes now or in the near future. Not only are we as individuals in today's society nearly powerless, but we don't even realize just how powerless we actually are.

@i_gallaher He’s an extremely talented philologist and has made some very novel connections in the history of thought. Agamben has to be read at a distance — I think he has a few essays that are up there with Benjamin in importance

I think he defines liberalism as a default cosmos of politics, as our founding creed, etc. It is defined I would say also in a reactionary valence, as that which is in opposition to socialism. In that sense he defines liberalism in quasi Marxist terms as the standpoint of the bourgeoise.

@TuttReal How can you demonstrate, much less prove, that something is either durable or inescapable without adequately specifying what that something is?

Perhaps the best example of this is Louis Hartz’s enormously influential The Liberal Tradition in America (1955)—which didn’t bother to define liberalism.

But the trend of left-wing accounts getting hacked and not returned to the owner is not an issue of @X having cut their staff or AI incompetency managing the platform.
