Oklahoma Coaches Association Class of 2026 Hall of Fame DALE PATTERSON High School: Okmulgee ▫️Participated in Football ▫️Earned All-State honors as a center and was selected to play in the prestigious Oil Bowl College ▫️His success as a player earned him the opportunity to continue his football career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College before transferring to Drake University, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Social Science in 1969 ▫️He later earned a Master's Degree in Community College Education from Pittsburg State University. Career ▫️Began his coaching career at Cushing High School under legendary coach Faye O'Dell, serving as an assistant before becoming head coach ▫️In 1975, he returned to his alma mater, Okmulgee High School, where he served as defensive coordinator under Coach Dan Sullivant. That season, the Bulldogs captured the 1975 Oklahoma State Football Championship, giving Coach Patterson his first state title ▫️In 1981, Coach Patterson accepted the position of Defensive Coordinator at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, where he quickly established himself as one of the premier defensive minds in junior college football ▫️During his 14 seasons as an assistant, he helped lead the Norsemen to National Junior College Championships in 1986 and 1991, laying the foundation for one of the nation's most respected programs. ▫️When longtime head coach Glen Wolfe retired, Coach Patterson accepted the challenge of leading the program in 1996 ▫️His teams captured Southwest Junior College Football Conference Championships in 1998, 2002, and 2003, while compiling an overall record of 72 victories and 34 losses. His 60-25 conference record established the Norsemen as one of the premier programs in the region, and he was twice named Southwest Conference Coach of the Year ▫️In 2004, Coach Patterson joined Oklahoma State University as Assistant Director of Football Operations, working alongside Head Coach Mike Gundy. ▫️Never one to stay away from the game for long, Coach Patterson returned to NEO A&M in 2011 as Head Football Coach and Athletic Director. In just two seasons, he revitalized the football program, captured another Southwest Conference Championship, and retired in 2012 with an outstanding 72-34 overall head coaching record, ranking among the winningest coaches in school history ▫️He continued serving as Athletic Director until his retirement in 2018.
