@priapussays Not completely, but apparently he's a strange guy who doesn't have any personal relationships with anyone. Indiana's AD took Cignetti to dinner & charmed him. Danny is good at raising money, but if you're the head of an organization you've got to build relationships

@MrVoltitude I'm pointing out that even in a supposed down year Barnes is still better than 99.9% of coaches Tennessee has ever had outside of Mears and Pearl.

@Twidoit Why in the world would Cuonzo be the standard of comparison? It's Bruce. Clearly. Pearl is the only coach since... forever... to compare to Barnes, because those are the two best.

Cuonzo Martin's best season at Tennessee was 24-13 with a Sweet 16 appearance in 2013-14. This year, Barnes is 24-11 and in the Sweet 16, despite the team underachieving during the regular season. Barnes is by far the best coach Tennessee has ever had.

@KnifeTruth @ItsLeland I will never speak negatively about him considering he brought Tennessee its first major men's national title since 1998, but at the same time I have no interest in watching the Giants.

@KnifeTruth @ItsLeland That's the only reason I want him to succeed. I don't give a shit about the Giants, but I don't want him coming back to coach Arkansas or at another school. Outside of that I don't care at all if the Giants lose every game

@ItsLeland Counterpoint- if TV does poorly and gets fired, he comes back to College ball and a different SEC school signs him because Danny Dimes wants to save a few

@RooVol I hope he does well so he doesn't come back and coach against Tennessee, but outside of that I don't really care whether he wins or loses games. I'm just going to focus on Tennessee mainly

@Notbillcurry It's difficult to tell. He's definitely the godfather of men's Tennessee basketball and without him Tennessee would not be where it is today That being said, Barnes has just finished the two best seasons back to back in school history. Mears lost to VMI with Ernie and Bernie

@Colman44 He was before my time. My grandfather worked at the University and liked him a lot. No question he was the father of Tennessee men's basketball and without him we wouldn't be where we're at today. My favorites are Pearl and Barnes because I watched them coach in my lifetime.

@johnnycash75 I'm pointing out that even Barnes teams that are below average by his standards are still better than a lot of other coaches teams at their absolute peak.

@Colman44 That was not my intention. My intention was to show that even years when Barnes teams are a step below his typical production they are still better than a lot of coaches are at their absolute peak

@Twidoit Cuonzo not even in the discussion! Ray Mears was a hell of a coach. Never had a losing record at UT in his 15 years as head coach. Only 32 teams made ncaa tournament back in those days. He’s definitely my all time favorite but I love Barnes too!

@FOXSportsKnox He's gonna do fantastic and surprise a lot of people. I will always be indebted to him for bringing Tennessee a title & introducing me to the sport of ⚾. I won't be actively keeping up with him or watching him though.

@mufonky Unless you're in your late 30s you never really got to see Kentucky basketball be a top tier program. Since 2015 they've not been a top-tier program anymore. How old are you sir?

@mufonky For six straight years not only has Tennessee finished better than Kentucky in the tournament, but this is the first time in program history Kentucky in 6 years has not at least made it an elite eight. Your program is shit. All you have is history

@mufonky What time does the banner hanging ceremony start for beating Tennessee twice? Regardless of the outcome Tennessee for 6th straight years has finished further in the tournament than the big blue losers. UK is not a top-tier program anymore.

Imagine being a fan of the big blue losers! All u can brag about are achievements from over 10 years ago. The coach who got you to your last Final Four was run out of town for a coach who never even won a tournament game. And u wonder why no one wants to coach at your school. 😂

@407Volfan4life Imagine if he got his health taken care of. Tennessee basketball would have been a perennial tournament team. Not saying they would be a blue blood like UK or UNC, but they would have been a solid high-level tournament team like Arkansas or Arizona.

@KenMantia Ray Mears most likely would have been the best if he got some help. There's a good chance Tennessee basketball would have been a perennial tournament team and more like Arkansas or Arizona, (not a blue blood), but a very solid high level tournament team most years.

@Twidoit He is the best I agree. I never saw Ray Mears. Bruce Pearl was very good. He compiled a 145–61 (.704) record in six seasons as coach at UT reaching the Tourney every year. Led Vols to Elite Eight and two Sweet 16 appearances, while finishing as a two-time SEC Coach of the Year

Dan Orlovsky perfectly represents where sports media went wrong. It's one thing to have Stephen A Smith or Skip Bayless whose job it is to be intentionally provocative. They represent the drunk guy in the urinal mumbling through vomit that we need to run the damn ball (and we do.) Dan is a former player with no cache featured every day on primetime intentionally spitting out takes that would make Herschel Walker blow his load. Literal Mickey Mouse clickbait bullshit. Bad faith sports torture porn that robs the viewer of an interesting perspective.
